Pietersen and Buttler are very close. Difficult to compare eras. They* are ahead of the pack though.

See, I actually went on a deep dive on Swann's stats after your original comment. Basically he is kinda superior in almost every way. My way of separating equal records being World Cup Performances, well even if their stats were similar, which they aren't, Swann's record in World Cups is pretty outstanding.

I mean Adil was in our 50 over World Cup winning side, managed to finish bottom of the averages and run rate conceded. This current World Cup is about the only one he's done well at.

In contrast Swann was uniformly brilliant, in all he played, and was the bowler of our T20 World Cup win, by miles.

Look, I get Swann is a **** that you'd want to avoid in a bar if he happened to be drinking anywhere near you, but he almost might be that unicorn, an England player in any sport that is under-rated. He's pretty clearly the best spinner England have had since Underwood in all forms (slim pickings maybe, but hey) and we don't know how Deadly would have performed without uncovered wickets, or Swann vice versa.

Rashid possibly a better ODI bat, there, I'll give him that one.

Myth of the leg-spinner though innit, see some saying Rashid should be catapulted into the Ashes team, Lord give me mercy.

Buttler is good enough to take Dhoni's spot in the ODI ATG XI if he keeps this up for a while longer, he's close as it is. Rate him very highly. His innings in the WC final was a masterpiece, even though Stokes got more of the plaudits , Buttler looked a level above every other batsmen in that game.

If you Make a list of top 10 English white ball players 7 of them will be from the team which won the world cup along with KP, Flintoff and Trescothick.

nah, he totally panicked. i can't remember how long he was panicking before his get out shot because i will never watch that game ever again but stokes was by far and away the most dangerous looking batsman that day.

Butler's fluency was levels above everyone else that game. Everyone else struggled to time it.
