Is Jos Buttler England's best limited-overs player ever?

Okay, to put it in some perspective we must take into account the guy moved to Lancashire, so has had to put up with eating lard and drinking ale so heavily so he blots out his terrible surroundings, and breathing in the enduring fog of the mills and tanneries and the like, rather than the healthy good air and fine rustic diet of the West-Country.

So all in all he's done alright I reckon.

Probably. But I’m just happy to have a debate about players in the same stratosphere as other nations after years of believing that Nick Knight and Neil Fairbrother were any good.

He's definitely the most fun.

Root and Bairstow probably have better ODI records off the top of my head but couldn't play some of the preposterous innings Buttler has in the last half a dozen years.

I'm also thinking that Morgan might have done more for the revolution as a whole.

Yeah I think so. As brilliant as they are you find a lot more players that are similar to Root and Bairstow.

I love Marcus, but nah. In the end didn't produce in the big Tournaments, average of 23 in 2 World Cups, and the strike-rate not close, different era and all that, but not for me, as much as it pains me to say.

Up there in the mix with the others mentioned. Guess who is the best would be swayed by a vote on any given day with a recent great performance giving someone the upper hand.

"england's", nah fair enough, but it should be said Morgan credit's Buttler as being one of the ones who when asked to play more sensibly, stood up in the Dressing room and said "no we should carry on attacking" he's very much Morgan's right-hand man, and Captain when he's not around.

It was my nostalgic post. I love him a lot and the way he used to play.

He’s no Carl Hooper, but I feel the same way about him as Hooper.

Nah, despite my dislike for the bloke it's a good shout, he had about 5 years where he was bloody awful in ODI's, but as I said before World Cups are really the massive denominator in these things as normal ODI's don't matter much IMHO, and he was player of the series in the T20 WC win, and had a decent record in the two 50 overs one.

Still think Buttler's devastating strike-rate in 50 overs, puts him above everyone if we're talking pure hitters. Lower average, but hey

t20 definitely, but yeah after the incredible start in 50 overs, and great end there was an horrible stodgy time for many years, which is hard to forget if you watched them during the time, a quick 40 was the best you could hope for, and he just never looked bothered.

Going on just 50 over, reckon Root is the winner there fairly comfortably actually. Averages 10 more than KP at roughly the same strike-rate. He's not awful in T20 either, but not really in Buttler or KP's League as carnage goes.

Would still have him in our T20 team this World Cup, but the fact I understand the decision to leave him out probably shows that he's not top-tier in this form.

Flintoff gets in a top team in ODI's as an allrounder, didn't really play that much T20, one feels he would have been great at his best, but has to be conjecture.
