It's not an easy job though is it? i mean Citeh, Chelsea and liverpool are miles ahead of them. I know they have all these superstar players and money, but it'll take awhile to catch those 3.

I really don’t think our squad is a million miles away. Definitely not an easy job but it’s the best time to take over since Fergie left. Ideally we’d have had a real manager this past few years but Solskjaer will at least leave us in a much better position than he found us.

United with a good manager automatically vault up the table for me. They have a gaping hole in central midfield but they've got the financial muscle to make the right signing there easily.

Long may Oli reign ?

I think the midfield will be a bit of a problem for any manager who comes in. The lack of a CDM who can make those short accurate passes to start attacks is a bit of a problem. Only Matic is that type of player and he is way past his peak.

To counter that, someone like Conte would probably switch to a back 3 once Varane is fit. Not sure what someone like Ten Hag would do since he doesn't really play that way and his Ajax team mostly plays 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.

Ten Hag'd be the best choice to take over from purely a coaching and tactical perspective but I don't find him very eloquent or charismatic so I'm not sure how he'd handle the likes of Ronaldo and Pogba. He's stubborn sometimes and may put excessive faith in some players (but it's usually paid off for Ajax). He's got the exciting brand of football that the fans will enjoy, but it's not foolproof and can be defensively naive at times although Ajax don't concede a huge amount of goals for most part. Tactically he's not that inferior to a Pep or a Klopp though, and, in my view, the only reason he isn't rated higher is that he hasn't proved his worth for bigger teams in stronger leagues.

Anyway all that is purely speculation because I don't think United will be decisive enough and will stick with Solskjaer unless results continue to be far below par over the next few weeks.

I think whoever takes over at United is stuffed, they have such an unbalanced squad with so many attacking options but no credible choices in midfield compared to the other sides up the top of the league. Will they be able to fix the problem in January?

The new manager once Ole gets sacked will just have to finish top 4 and then get that midfield sorted next summer when it should have been fixed a couple of years ago instead of spunking all the money on more and more attacking options who despite being good/great players can't all play at once.

It needs to be Ole gone and a Woodward gone and Woodwards college buddy gone and a structure that places football over marketing, hype and splash. Which has zero chance of happening.

I think Conte has a very specific way of playing iirc which may mean even more squad changes. While the acquisition of players is so random any manager won’t get a balanced squad. It’s all rearranging deck chairs till they fix the actual footballing structure.

What does Donny Van de Beek actually do? I have forgotten.
Gets splinters in his arse sitting on the bench.

It will be funny when he moves to Newcastle in January and becomes a really important player for them. Such a strange signing if they were never going to give him a chance.

I do think Ronaldo could be a problem for a Conte like manager, or anyone that wants to play a high press really, but it may well be my dislike for him to call a 30-goal a year striker a problem.

I noticed when he signed that the people who watch a lot of Serie A were expecting a total disaster. Saying that signing Ronaldo would make a team worse felt a bit too galaxy brain to most of us, but it’s what happened last time he moved and he’s only got less mobile since.

Not just Ronaldo in isolation though. Cavani does work a lot harder for the team so you do lose out there. We seem to have gotten worse with Rashford back. Having 2 wingers who don’t track and fullbacks who push up with only Fred to offer cover is a problem. I think you can cover for Ronaldo but not 3 or 4 front players at the same time.

Almost as if they're a disorganised, uncoached mess.
