Just read his Wiki, it looks like he's worked a lot in South Africa which might explain what I thought was a Saffer tinge to his accent. But yes, now that I know he's Welsh I've realised his "overly careful elocution" is just his Welsh accent. Not a South African accent pretending it's not one.
