Any suggest " 'cos more runs " is for the infantile except for those that increase running. I think that not having boundaries at all will work fine with current grounds: fielders will just have to jump the fence (good entertainment at Pakistani grounds), and if necessary, duke it out with spectators.

*Imagining Inzy being the leading run scorer in test history. *
Every single that he ran was a quick single, by his standards.
The problem for Inzy is that making it half way down the pitch was like running a 2 for a normal person

There's more of a case for a six still only being a four. A decent cover drive is far better than a top edged hook and left unchecked would ultimately travel further.

Maybe make the batsmen completing an odd number of runs count double and even numbers count as [completed runs -1]. Coming back for a second run could have a negative impact for the batsmen but a big reward to be had if they think they can complete a third.

(Optional as to whether to enforce a dot ball = -1.)

I recall a similar story where the ball was caught in a branch that was overhanging the boudary. The umpire ruled the ball was still in play and the fielding side was throwing items at it to dislodge it and to make the catch. They dropped it.
Sack the umpire tbh. That's a six, assuming the tree itself is outside the boundary and hangs over it

Edges happen for fours too. The point about a six or eight is that hitting it in the air is more risky in cricket. Hitting it further in the air is more of a skill. Some purists (I prefer to call them anti cricket delusionists) rather Tavare block all day inside the square than see Gilchrist blast a quick 50 in a test match, not that relevant to the discussion though

Someone calculate the result of the 2019 World Cup Final based on this instead of boundaries.
