Best Book on Cricket Photography?

Guys, what the best book on cricket photography u have ever seen or purchased? There are a dozen books by Patrick Eager and other less known photographers, but which one really stands out? I'm looking for books which cover the pre-2000 era.

Btw, I was thinking of buying Patrick Eager's 'Test Decade 1972-82'. Has anyone had this in his collection?

I have that one. It's a great book if you're a fan of that era. It's predominantly matches in England, but with a smattering of overseas stuff. There wasn't much overseas coverage aside from the Ashes in those days, so some of those pictures are really good to see.

Thanks for your review on Test Decade - 1972-82. Btw, does the text/chapters feature photo descriptions by Eager, or are they just match/series reports?

George Beldham and C.B. Fry's Great Batsmen, their methods at a glance is a stunning and beautifully illustrated book, full of remarkably varied, albeit now ancient photographs. I understand the sister compilation, Great Bowlers and Fielders, their methods at a glance is equally well illustrated. Another superbly illustrated book of very old cricket photographs is David Frith's The Golden Age of Cricket.

Thanks...I will definitely keep these in my to-buy list. Over the years I have been an avid collector of Frith's Wisden Cricket Monthly and he always comes up with rare pics of the bygone era. His book should be worth.

Does it features photographs from the rest of the cricketing world besides England & Australia? Also any images from the 80's?

The last 60 or so pages feature cricket from the 1980s up to 1987 ( it's publishing date.) Test cricket from around the world, other domestic games, there is a picture of Viv Richards with his stumps splattered by Wayne Daniel in a shell shield game, there are pictures from Sri Lanka, India etc..
As I said, the books damn heavy, but should be reasonably easy to buy from a book dealer, comfortable under $50 I would think.

Another great photography book I forgot to mention before is "The Summer Game" the Illustrated history of NZ Cricket by Don Neely, published in 1994, all NZ cricket, Test, domestic, womens, etc.. Only 256 pages, so not as heavy, but it's a large coffee table size, really good.

I collect cricketbooks, have 20 bookshelves of them after 40 years collecting, so I should be able to find what you need ( I'm not selling though ) LOL

Just been going through my books which are photography based, here are some more, not sure what floats your boat,

Cricket : the golden age ( extraordinary images from 1859-1999) by Duncan Steer, 380 pages, all B/W photos on all aspects, coffee table size,

Wisden illustrated history of Cricket by Vic Marks, pub 1988, mostly test cricket, 256 pages, a nice book,

Cricket Reflections, five decades of cricket photographs by Ken Kelly, pub 1985, pretty much only county cricket, mainly warwickshire, but an excellent book by the guy who worked for the Birmingham Gazette, great action photos, 192 pages,

Cricket Grounds from the air by Zaki Cooper & Daniel Lightman, published 2009, 128 pages, an interesting book of Aerial photos of English cricket grounds, not just the test grounds, but outgrounds as well. ( managed to get this for $2 at a charity store in UK a few years ago)

and those books mentioned in the earlier posts are terrific as well.

If books about cricket photography are part of the discussion, I guess this should be consideration.

I found a copy of this book at a low price on amazon and bought it. Haven't read it yet though it looks promising. Unfortunately the pictures have been printed on to the same paper used for the text.
It's more on the art of cricket photography by the great Patrick Eager. I really loved Ryan's book on Kim Hughes so this one will definitely be a brilliant read. Thanks for reminding me of this book!
