No. I wanted three trillion but this is not how Test cricket works. There’s a reason that the number of successful run chases of 350 occur on average basically once or twice a decade.
Surely though if you have the choice, you take those extra runs and be on the safer side? Just because these things don't happen does not mean they can't happen.

I think Joe Root was right to attempt to guide one down to third man when his team needs a million runs in 40 overs
Turns out that he wasn't, but he has scored about a million runs playing that shot this summer. Got it wrong this time, but carrying this shower must get into his head from time to time.

this gives them more of a sniff. It’s always better if they go for it a little bit.

but as I said, I would want a trillion runs. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t see that it should be plenty.
