Dominant from Radanacu, and with Barty out the draw opens up for her, it is the WTA so a Fernandez-Emma final is on, both 18 year olds born in Canada to a Chinese parent.

Yet Still a lot of big names left, generally the draw hasn't fallen apart like it normally does.
kerber, halep, muguruza, bencic, swiatek, pliskova, andreesku, svitolina, sabalenka, krejcikova...plenty of quality left...raducanu looks like a real talent though...

Yeah all of them winners of big titles, and Sabs and Pliskobot whose fave surface is hard courts, few of them playing each other though, next up, if I had to put money on it, I think I might go Bencic to follow up on the Olympic, stealthily worked herself through the draw with not much fuss. Got Swiatek next, but she's struggled a bit on the last 2 rounds, and then would meet Shelby/Emma in the quarters.

Just looked at the betting on oddschecker and Emma is 12-1 with most bookies and lower, utterly mental.

It’s a shame about Osaka. Hopefully she’ll return at some point. Raducanu looks like a real superstar. Hopefully she’ll concentrate on tennis and not be another Kournikova.

Kournikova lost her serve, became a double fault machine, not sure what concentrating would have done, it was more a form of yips. too much too young, as I'll mention later. She was still World class at every other aspect of her game. Think she served 23 d-fs in one match and still won.

Anyway I am hopeful for Emma, partly because she's played little tennis to this point, the entire phenom thing of having kids play a ridiculous amount of tennis early on, and leading to injuries and burn-out, is something she's avoided wonderfully, now she has a situation for about 8 months she has no points to defend, so she can carry on having a sensible schedule, and moving up the rankings.

If you compare her to our last great hope, Laura Robson, Wimbo junior champ at 15, basically retired now because her wrists are ****ed, possibly through playing lots when her body was developing.

By concentrating on tennis I meant spending more time on the practise court than in front of the camera glamour modelling. Of course it's her life, her choice and she her earned a fortune from her looks. It's just a shame she didn't achieve more on the tennis court from a tennis fans point of view.

I just think she hit mental yips, and it's always an easy excuse to use that someone spent time doing modelling, most of these shoots would take a couple of days out of her year, and btw the likes of Federer haven't exactly shied away from promotional work.

She did photo shoots for months at a time and was barely on the tennis court. She had glamour model looks and used them fully to her advantage. She had a lot of injuries anyway which she might not have been able to come back from when still in her early 20's. I'd still marry her anyway.

Two Grand Slam winners Kerber and Halep bite the dust. Maybe Fernandez is heading to the final. Halep beaten by Svitolina who's currently ranked higher so it's not a major shock, maybe she might win one at last.
Evans totally outplayed by Medvedev.

Svitolina normally bottles it at this stage, so yeah Fernandez FTW.

I doubt she really cares considering the year she has had and her bank balance, but I still don't think Barbara K is all that. I like the ladies game but not sure it reflects well on it that she has won a slam and is currently 2nd fav for this.

Saba fav lets all hope she wins. I love how angry she is on court.

I dunno, think it would have been worse if she randomly won a Slam then faded into the background, like others have, she's clearly a decent player.

Sabs is really hated by lots of tennis fans who hate the grunt and the aggression, I like both, so wouldn't mind her winning, TBH, there's no-one in the field I'd hate winning at this point. Pliskobot deserves a slam really, so does Svitty in a dull way.

Alcaraz is still going into the Quarters. According to the BBC he's the youngest US Open Men's Quarter-Finalist in the open era. He plays Felix Auger-Aliassime next. Botic van de Zandschulp is also through to the quarters. This year is the first time he's qualified for the Slams and came through three qualifying rounds here.

With modern noise cancelling tech, they should just remove grunts so we can appreciate all players. It's funny how I can sometimes watch and not notice printers, but once I pick up the first grunt I'm put off for the rest of the game.

Bah, make them concede the point for putting off their opponents. They'd learn not to do it soon enough. Its more of a scream than a grunt anyway, certainly where the ladies are concerned.

The men grunt as much just the women are more high-pitched so more noticeable.

congrats for a very Dail Mail letters page comment though, we all get there eventually....

Krejcikova did seem to be in some distress after the match, so hopefully it was genuine.

The problem is that Barbora K has history in doing it apparently, so it may be the girl who cried wolf on this occasion, in the end after the Tsipitas thing it's bound to be a story.

Yeah, I thought you'd appreciate it. Just accept that you're wrong and I'm right on this one, gender issue not withstanding.

Wretched performance that from Rogers, but nonetheless very nice win for Raducanu who is into the quarters in just her second slam.

Bit of a shame its Bencic next who is in great form though.
