You don't think Maxwell is making the team for his batting? The guy with 3* T20I hundreds?

*I think
Nah Maxwell opening would be fine, that part was referring to the calls for Inglis to do it from Nintendo.

I like Maxwell at 4-5 because he's proven he can actually make a serious impact there. That's fairly rare. But if he opened I'd be fine with it.

Unless it's full Narine meme I really do think your top three or four in T20Is should justify their spots on batting alone. There's such a big difference in this format between the impact the top order has compared to the lower middle order that I don't like the semi-funky selections of allrounders and keepers up top unless they'd make the side based solely on their batting.

I was happy for Finch to go down to 5 when the selectors were trying to get Short and/or Lynn into the lineup, but with their failures I think I'd keep him up top. Opening with Smith is an interesting option though; that could leave a top five of: Warner, Smith, Marsh, Maxwell, Finch.

I don't mind Agar at 7 in theory. It's correct to say that it didn't work out in Bangladesh but those pitches are not exactly typical in T20Is. The bigger problem IMO is that the keepers have been dire. If Inglis at 6 works out then Agar at 7 is fine, but if the keeper is going to be a spud then the keeper himself probably needs to be at 7, and Agar at 6 would be no good.
I don't think it's correct to say that anyway. Of the 10 games (v WI, v Bang), Christian was at 7 for four of them, Turner was at 7 for four of them. The problem was that the batting sucked badly and the bowling wasn't great, so the person at 7 is the most irreverent person in the world.

Except Inglis justifies his spot in the lineup purely as a batsmen? Hes been one of the best 3 format bats in the country since bbl08.

Not even close imo.
Top run scored in the T20 blast, top scored for his franchise in the 100, been one of the best bats in the bbl over the past 2 years batting anywhere from opener to 4. The guy averages 32@150 in t20 with two tons. Fail to see how he doesn't justify a spot as a pure bat.

He's been very good, but it's a bit of a stretch to come in for your international debut immediately in the most important batting spot in the team, when there are players like Smith, Maxwell, Finch, Warner etc. Even Stoinis might have a better claim to the opening spot than Inglis.

Maxwell's our best #4/#5 in t20I's and arguably the best in the world in those positions, the selectors are never going to send him to open. Smith opened for RR last year in the ipl before buttler and stokes showed up and had pretty middling returns. Can't disagree on stoinis, finch or Warner though.

The point is that in a T20 you need your best players to face as many balls as possible. If Inglis opens that means all of those other guys are coming in one spot later, which you don't really want.

i’m still not sold as smith as in the best say three or four t20 bats in the country tbh

he is a really solid anchor don’t get me wrong which every team needs i guess tbf

Start of the Qld season and Marnus bowls Usman. Worst footwork possible for Usman. Early on and hopefully he comes good against spin and see some more of him dominating.

Who are our young LOI bowlers that are gonna be coming in in 3-4 years once starc and haze call it quits in that format? Only guys who comes to mind are jhye and ellis, and jhye's A) An injury risk, and B)Not done much in LOI aside from one good bbl season. All the older guys who could come in have **** internation records (Abbott, sams, k richardson, etc). Could be a real problem if we don't develop some talent, and considering the utter state of the one day cup and all the gimmicks that make bbl about as good a launching platform for international's as hong kong super sixers.

Finding specialist 50-over bowlers is a thing of the past. Just extrapolate from the Big Bash and/or red-ball cricket seems to be the go now. It's been the case for Aus for a while now, and not just bowlers. Which was going to have to happen with Australia's ridiculous 50 over domestic schedule where unless you're available (not injured or in a concurrent Aus international squad) then you literally never play 50 over domestic cricket.

Not contesting that the schedule is ridiculous, but I'm pretty sure that goes for all matches, no matter the format.

I certainly am not seeing any tremendous prospects on the pace bowling front at the moment in any format (Richardson aside). Time to start asking the question as to whether it's an effect of AFL taking all the tall guys who would be good pace bowlers. Bartlett looks okay but he's got a long way to go, Meredith will never be accurate enough IMO, he's already 25. Sutherland needs an extra yard of pace.

Problem is that we're finding bugger all good Big Bash bowlers either.

Even red ball bowlers there seems to be a bit of a dearth longer-term. Richardson should come good but has queries over fitness. Green seems too stock standard for Test level and seems more promising with the bat. Bartlett looks promising but doesn't have a significant track record yet.
