He did go to a pretty elite school but it doesn't seem like he's Oxbridge educated and his occupational background is actually kind of working class.
This is actually pretty much exactly what I thought he was, but I didn't want to push it too much. Except I thought it might be the other way round: working class or lower middle class background, and then some later-life social mixing with the Quality at University. What's his occupational background?

Interesting they’re saying the pitch here is slower than it used to be. Have they put a new square in or has it just got old and slow like me? It used to have some true bounce and good carry back in the 80s and 90s. Was the ground which most reminded me of an Australian venue.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yes it is a good point but England are far better at exploiting errors because they can really just stick it on the spot and swing it ball after ball. India's bowlers are more about the magic ball.
Basically, they are not swing bowlers and the natural length is way shorter than you need it to be to get swing. It works in Australia coz you are always keeping the batsman on the leash and they will snick one ultimately. Over here, you are not gonna need that many runs and they also know India's weaknesses, so the wickets will do something all along. Its upto us to pick the right bowling attack and balance for the conditions and we have not managed to do that.

Lol Smith looks the worst positioned of any of them and he averages 128 in England against balls in the corridor.

Jadeja at five. Not a bad move to mix it up with a leftie I suppose
He looks the weirdest but surely he's in a perfect position? Hasn't committed to the front foot, head right over the ball etc

There’s been like 17,000 posts from Indian supporters wanting Jadeja to bat higher, including some wanting him at three. Now he’s batting five and people are saying it’s an indictment. Fmd.
Those posts were stupid. Batting above Pant was certainly due though.

Rahane has no reason to be in this team if he doesn’t feel like he can bat ahead of Jadeja.
Tactical promotion but I would argue Jaddu is the most natural #5 in this side right now. You can pick a SKY or a Prithivi to bat 6 along with Pant 7 and Ashwin 8, and then pick the 3 best fast bowlers for the conditions. But we cant do the simple things when Virat is the captain, can we?

Between Rahane and Pujara, I dont care which one bats 3. And the other should be dropped. Rahane has been out of form since 2016, Pujara lost form from 2018. So I guess if it was me, I would drop Rahane first. But like I mentioned earlier, he is also the best captaincy material in the side and I feel his batting will lift if he is captain. So its a rock and a hard place and we are stuck in between.

I'm starting to think Shaw is necessary. Defensive batting is just not the way to go here - unless someone at the other end is scoring quickly.

You gotta remember he is gonna bat how Shardul did at Nottingham. Everyone seems a better option when they are not playing. :p

Disagree about shielding or w/e - I think it is good to shake things up. Won't necessarily work but it is better than just doing nothing and awaiting the inevitable.
Yeah, shielded is a bit unfair but it's not a good look for your vice-captain batsman of 80 Tests, however you dress it. All I can say at this stage is it must feel good to have the unlimited faith of your captain and coach. Just ask Ashwin.

Yes I'm aware he has no technique against the moving ball but maybe he'll get himself in somehow and manage to score runs. Hanging the bat out waiting for an edge just doesn't get the batsmen "in", in England and so they're just waiting to snick off.
