Pretty sure Burgey is correct (said no one ever).......it was 2009 where there was a lot of talk about the Oval wicket. It was puffing dust on day 1 but the Aussie did score 350 batting last (chasing over 500) so I'm not sure it was really a Mumbai type wicket

Show's how much of a weak link curran was honestly, bring in woakes for him so england have a 4th pace option who isn't feeding freebies and the lineup looks so much more dangerous. Like in the 1st innings of the 3rd test england all out'd india for 72 because curran didn't give them any release. During the second test rohit and rahul where crawling along before rohit tore curran apart.

Bowling first is probably unnecessary, but not an outright bad call. The pitch is probably going to be the same for most of the first 4 days at the Oval so if you feel like bowling, may as well bowl. I don't think it's a very different situation from Kohli opting to bat first at Headingley and getting slated for it.

At any rate, we're well ahead of India in terms of not overthinking it. They're playing Shardul Thakur while the world's number 4 ranked allrounder sits on the bench.

England can bowl first, second, or concede an innings and still win against this shithouse Indian batting. Only slightly exaggerating too. Root at present is worth at least three Indian batsmen, and two of those three are already gone for nothing. The math does not look promising.

He's the Sky programme host no? The guy who introduces the game? Supposed to be vapid. Struggling to think of good emcees like that across the world, Benaud the obvious exception.
