I feel like this is something that has little to no evidence to support it and youve just said it because it sounds like it should be correct.
Wrong

Rahane sucks
Nah I'm totally willing to consider that Jadeja is a better batsman than Rahane. I think I even said so a few months ago. If Jadeja couldn't bowl due to injury or something and he was going to be left out entirely I'd definitely think about dropping Rahane instead.

But if they're both going to be playing, then I think Rahane's comparative advantage is in navigating bounce and sideways movement. Rahane ****ing sucks against spin, and neither of them are great with the tail. I think there's some utility to giving someone who might end up bowling a shitton of overs less top order responsibility with the bat too.

I do think Rahane would do a better job against fresh opening bowlers with the first new ball than Jadeja, even if only marginally at this point, and Jadeja would do a much better job against the older ball.

Jadeja at 7 is probably outright silly at this point but I don't think batting him at 5 is the way forward either. Maybe if Rahane ends up dropped for Pandya or something.

Is Rory Burns' weird/awkard stance acknowledged as a thing? Asking as someone who hasn't actually watched cricket properly for about 15 years.

Bloke looks as if he's a batsman in a video game where the controller is broken and the "left" button is basically being pressed constantly. Like he's fighting at some gravitational field pulling himself in the direction of his leg stump.

Whatever it takes!!!

We can very well play a Shaw or a SKY at 6/7 though, with Jaddu at 5.

Yeah I think that's also fine. If Rahane gets dropped for a strokemaker who's good against spin and/or with the tail, Jadeja at 5 makes sense. If Rahane is playing I don't think dropping him down the order is going to make the team better off at all. If anything he's a #3 who's been out of position his whole career.

That could happen too. They may bring in someone for Puji and get Rahane to bat 3.

Shami's gonna take a five-fa this innings. It's not even a prediction, it's already a fact.
