India showing how you should treat an attack with only two bowlers. Still not safe but should be targeting 500+….which given the English batting lineup is surely a match-winning total.

I think about 400 is the most India will be able to get to tbh. Really depends on how much more Rahul has left. Can’t see Rahane sticking around for long and while Pant/Jadeja are good bats they’re also inconsistent.

Pant and Jadeja have been the most consistent batsmen for India in the past 2 years.
I feel like this is true when India needs them to bail them out. But maybe that’s just because those innings are the ones which stick in my mind.

They do have pretty high averages over the past couple of years though it seems.

On the bright side for India, the Lord's pitch sometimes gets very good for bowling on day 2 and that might be happening here.

I love Pant as much as everyone else but I'll be very impressed if he gets runs this series. That type of player just never succeeds in England.

No idea about Lord's, but here in SWS London it's overcast with a hint of mizzle. Ideal scenario is for that to stay long enough for England to bowl out India reasonably quickly and then disappear when England get to bat.

The floodlights are on so it must be dark, but yesterday looked like it should have been good for bowling too. Not sure if that's changed today or the batsmen just happened to make two mistakes.

Gilchrist in 2001 is the obvious exception. Albeit not in 2005 when England's bowling was far better.

Yeah this pitch has definitely quickened. Promising for India, makes Root's toss decision look even worse.

I've fallen down a rabbit hole of looking for fast bowlers since 2000 with worse bowling records in England than Wood. There aren't many - for obvious reasons it's very unusual to play so many games with such a poor record. A few players are doing worse over 5+ games. Mostly fast guys who didn't move it much and played when their teams' fast bowling stocks were low. Sreesanth, Fidel Edwards, Jerome Taylor, etc.

The weird anomaly is Chaminda Vaas averaging 78 in England. I guess he just never figured out the Duke.

The only fast bowler doing worse than Wood over 10+ games is Brett Lee. They share an unfortunate ability to make fast, accurate deliveries look absolutely harmless.
Do you remember what Wood averages in England?
