*Official* First Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham - Aug 4-8 - 2021

Pujara has 845 runs in 19 tests @ 27.2 with 0 hundreds since the Australia 18/19 tour. Kohli and Rahane at least had their poor from start in 2020 so its more a 10 match L streak for them as opposed to 20 for Pujara.

Even if you are a top tier ATG, and Pujara isn't, 20 tests averaging in the 20s as a no.3 is unacceptable tbh, regardless of a couple of important 50s.

Mostly agree but Im not going to let you get away with saying Rahane's poor stretch started only in 2020. Dude had one good year in 2019 scoring runs in matches where others were also scoring, otherwise he's been utterly mediocre for 5 years now.

great ooohhhhhhh from root there. great knock though, one of his best i've seen.
The runs in Australia were much more valuable in terms of impact than just the pure run count, but apart from that nah, he's just playing poorly. Even at home where prime pujara would dominate.
i thought this too, and he still takes ages to get out in general which is annoying and in theory helps those below him.

He won a series on his own with the bat in Australia immediately before this streak in 18/19 so started with a looooong rope.

He also played 3 crucial attritional knocks in the recent win in Australia, two which helped greatly to draw the 3rd test test and one where he basically eliminated the possibility of Australia winning at the Gabba while the batsmen around him could play for the win. He has a SR in the 30s so that means he occupies the crease for 100+ balls routinely even if he doesn't score a lot of runs but he's still not worth it at this point if there's no 'upside' big knocks once in a few tests to go along with the grinding.

Reckon its less valuable in the context of the current Indian team in English conditions because a) the ball swings basically all innings so seeing out the new ball isnt as valuable and b) the rest of the batsmen suck at scoring runs too and c) the bowlers dont get tired like in other conditions because the sun doesnt exist.

Not quite trolly enough. Not sure Broad is capable of a good troll himself against this new ball, so not looking like much more than a 200 chase.
