Maybe the odd Lara WI side, or Flower Zimbabwe side?
Most of those Lara sides would've had Chanderpaul at least. Even Sarwan and Gayle would've be the second best bat in the current England side.

Flower Zimbabwe though, yes.

Apart from maybe some Chanderpaul led WIndian sides, hard to think one full stop, let alone England.
Andy Flower? And if we remove era restrictions, George Headley was probably just as consistent as Joe Root but way better at converting starts into match winning contributions, yet the second best Windies batsman of his generation (Clifford Roach maybe?) was probably no better than Burns/Bairstow/Buttler.

Slightly early to say Eng are on top but another hundred runs which they look likely to get and I'd consider them favorites tomorrow.

Maybe a few post-Chappell, pre-Waugh Aussie sides with AB from the early/mid 80s too?
