Ben Stokes to take indefinite break from Cricket

The nation breathes a sigh of relief as Morgan breaks his silence on the matter. Apparently Stokes' decision is fine as he pulled out before the event rather than during it. And it's actually due to his finger injury, despite Stokes' statement majoring on mental issues.
Piers knows all...don't question his judgement...and Stokes must be thanking his lucky stars he is not a non-Caucasian non-male...

I don't know who Pierce Morgan is but I like the cut of his jib
He's a ****ing massive gobshite. Like a shitter, pettier, more narcissistic version of Kyle Sandilands. Although who knows, his might be another jib you admire the shape of.

I admit I was skeptical when Swann left mid-series, though of course mental health issues should be taken seriously.

I just always thought, owing to what passed for his character, that if he'd been doing sprinklers in the outfield at 2-0 up, ol' Swanny might have seen it through.

But there is clearly potential for the "mental health issues" excuse to be misused, i know people that have done it in workplaces. "Mental Health" is such a great excuse because you can't question it. Anyone who denies that people will take advantage of the situation is kidding themselves.

. . . that doesn't mean you should be going around accusing people will mental illness that they are faking it

anyone who thinks people faking mental health issues to get out of trouble is never going to happen is a moron tbh

not that anyone is saying that, just putting it out there

Whatever it takes!!!
Everything can be misused in this world. It does not mean you come in to a thread about a bloke who lost his father after a painful struggle some months back, and who has had to go through various bio bubbles month after month while his father was battling for his life, and discuss the potential misuse of mental health reasons.

I was responding to Burgey's post about being skeptical re. Swann, thought that was clear. Not making any comment on the veracity of anything to do with Stokes.

Not only that but I directly said that Stokes clearly has issues so I don't understand your confusion

edit: do see that it's ****ed with the thread a bit though and I should have predicted that outcome, my bad

I do a lot of psych cases. They're always tough. And the ****ing amount of paper work they generate from lawyers, fmd. They just throw everything in - thousands of ****ing pages. Shits me to tears. In my experience the incidence of people bunging it on is pretty low from a compo POV, primarily because it just isn't worth it to try it on. Doesn't mean it isn't used as a basis for avoiding things in other settings, but it doesn't really happen much, if at all, in my line of work.

It's such a complex issue. If Steve Smith had said nah **** this mid ashes due to the booing I wouldn't have judged him. Maybe Swann being carted around in that series brought to the surface some issues he'd been struggling with regardless and it took a trigger like that for him to realise he could no longer cope. Who here has been in an international athletes shoes

I've worked with countless schizophrenic people and have been diagnosed it with myself. All I know is the more I learn about it the less confident I feel being able to form an opinion. Sometimes I feel my sympathy just disappearing for a traumatized individual or drug addict if I feel they can genuinely do better and are being lazy(especially when they are being rude or destructive to others), then I realise wait there could be something else on their mind affecting them that I hadn't considered

So yeah lol

Could also be he wasn't right mentally to start with, and his poor performances were reflective of that, rather than the other way around.

Good to know taking care of your mental health should fit into other peoples schedules and expectations.
Yeah, yeah, you suddenly realize you have a mental health issue after getting spanked in few matches in the middle of the tour. That is very convenient. If you have issues, then it is YOUR responsible to take treatment and ask your therapist whether you are fit for the job ahead in every major decision you take. If you lack insight that you are needed get assessed, then it is a psychotic illness and nbeed specialized treatment. "I have a mental health issue" in the middle of a thing horribly going wrong is a well known way to chicken out of the task.

I see your understanding about mental heath issues and cricket are pretty much parallel in their non-existence.
