Another loss for the MTOs... not unexpected but disappointing. Biggest concern is the lack of wickets early innings. Think that the poor fielding and wk is really holding the team back. Suppose I need to try be patient as the team skills progress.... still frustrating.

This also probably combines with captaincy development.

A deck of cards with bad fielders. You need a trump card perhaps.

Solid win for ZCC vs Jan CC today, bouncing back strong from their poor CWC3 showing vs Moooo. We bowled first and dismissed them for just 118, Tim Chester taking 5/30 after the seamers made early inroads. Chased it down with 6 wickets and more than 13 overs to spare, skipper Ahsan top scored with 44*. Good IGT for the bowling attack with 33.1 overs bowled, but would have nice if Shafi Ibrahim and Taufeeq Bashir got a chance to bat.

FHK should pick up an easy bot bash win, but we are 57/5 in 15 overs. Yikes. Managed to rest Lester Shum and Ivan Lam for senior duties, and pushed all the kids who don't play senior cricket up the batting order. Seems like we're going to need Nathan and Tony to bail us out again though.

Sorry folks - forgot my password...sorted now ! fun times as friendly comp started by Kunal - Canada Air strike Tophy and the one from Stellar the NorthStar are now finally beginning- i do hope the DEVS give some time to this - these friendly comps are a great way of generating interest and getting some chat going down but at the moment they are a bit of a mess- in terms of how they are shown or not on fixture list /forthcoming fixtures and weekly schedule - needs tidying up , consistency , not to mention the bugs you pointed out ***** .... its not asking for DEV just MAINT .

Like a teenager and his bedroom if something is messy in the end you just give up on it and don't bother which is a shame!

yea generally around 22/23 is my upper limit for training a player as well. Usually want to get each skill of theirs to within 2 of their potential, as Stephen said. Ideally push it up to 1 within their potential.
I often read that you can train someone to 2 of their potential - not got there yet but this is interesting stuff for my 'notes to self' I guess there are two things going on here - at a certain age a player just wont get any better whatever his ratio of Actual /Potential (although this age will vary player to player and characteristic to characteristic ( Precocious much earlier Late bloomer much later!)

the next thing maybe is that although you could improve the player - it is all about his actual % to potential % - it takes the same effort to wring out a drop compared to at the start when you get a whole cupful. So you could get them to one off potential (or even 0 ?) but without playing all the time it would soon drop? and you could have got many more actual tick ups for the same effort with someone else.

All well and good i guess if you have someone with potential of 55 - then yeah you could have the luxury of them being 49 - but if like myself you have a youth keeper with bat potential of 35 there is a huge difference between 29 and 32 and 35

( I assume when folk talk about 1 or 2 off potential they mean 1 or 2 for each of the 3 characteristics)

There you go...what a ramble!!

Updated rankings:

Free HK 2238 (+2)
Jura 2208 (+3)
ZCC 2206 (-2)
Dynamo Morpork 2201 (-2)
Winton 2031 (-1)
Dynamo Schmaltzberg 1949 (+1)
Honest Hunks 1940 (-1)
GG CC 1911 (+1)
ataraXIa 1863 (-1)
Ashgrove Astronauts 1789 (=)
The Merry Orangutans 1740 (=)
Moooo 1706 (=)

Two wins for Dynamo today, a very good win for Morpork by skittling a strong team for 110 (including ex-Morpork bowler Mason) followed up by a bot bashing for Schmaltzberg.

Mooo’s match today was against the Golden Knights, a team that just joined Stumped (yesterday it looks like).

We batted first and got shot out for 148 in 37.3 overs. Tom Toogood top scored with 25(62) and Dhiraj Sruti with 19(41).

The Golden Knights got to the target with 3 wickets in hand.

Mooo’s rating was 33,568
Golden Knight’s rating was 23,318

This loss takes Mooo down to 5th place with 7 points: 1 win and 2 losses. The net run rate is +0.13 which is a good thing, just need to string together a few wins though.

Next week’s matchup is against Frogmorton CC, who are the current table toppers and undefeated in the league so far.

I managed to train 30yo Austin Hyde from 15/20 to 16/20 with a fairly bad coach so I'm not sure this is true.

Schmaltzberg are 85-0 (25) at halfway. I guess that's what I get for playing two economical bowlers. I don't mind.

Shanuka Kurusumuttu is 46 (83), and Ivor Buckland just now finally misjudged one from Juan Goliath to be bowled for 32 (73).

I think it’s less that it not possible and more a case of diminishing returns.

Many of the top squads I noticed have top players over the age of 30. I’m guessing those players are so very good as to be irreplaceable. So try train them and keep them around for as long as possible even as age effects start hurting.

Bad death bowling from Rusty Frost puts DySch into a commanding 280-5. Hopefully he goes better with the bat nevermind out hit wicket after three balls... Good contributions from all the Schmaltzberg batters. Standout bowler Juan Goliath for his 4-54. Steve Ludlow as economical as ever with 1-27.

Yea but they're Shawn Dee and Kurt Murdoch. They know how to bat and the asking rate is under a run-a-ball.

Wonder how many overs of spin Schmaltzberg will bowl in these final 11 overs. Scott has 5 left and Payne has 3.

I've just seen so many lower-order collapses for my side... kind of wish I still had clutch Mitchell Armstrong in my team. Like, c'mon, I had 25-skill bats down to #9 in this team, and that happened. Murdoch can be destructive down the order but no one else has really done that for me. Dee's been pretty crap at #6 but there's no opening up the order. Saadi will be replaced by the club soon so an opening is likely in the top 5, hopefully that brings better results for Dee.

The good news is that I've got some excellent finishers in training alongside Murdoch in Zac Chambers and Liam Kotze. That'll be my #6/7/8 in the future.

Ay, at least Clift got a century. His third and a club record IIRC. Du Preez continuing his excellent record as well. It's hardly the sort of pitch where Ancell and Owen could wring havoc, but hey, they did. Great game.

two things are a re-occurring theme in Stumped:

> loads of runouts
> tailenders getting out slogging when they could just be pushing/blocking and take you to a win

there was an effort to fix the Match Engine a while back to address these, and tbh I can't remember anymore how that played and what the response was, but I remember we moved back to the original Engine for some reason. Might be some discussion in old threads in the forums about it.

It's hard to plan around these issues, but at least we know they exist and that it's the same for everyone.

Tough loss ata, I think the spinners were so hard to score off so that they had to slash loose at Ancell and Owen. In the end 281 is a big target.

Morpork's juniors are playing MTO today, the selection has been based almost purely on players with least XP: Mthabela+, Savundranayagam, Hughes, Fouche jr., Goliath, Jan, Hollioake, Mlaba, Hozier, Arnold*, Alam

That is very interesting ! I know they say that the number is a sublevel so he could have been 15.49 and gone to 15.51 but still the point remains that he improved at 30 so that blows what I thought I had learnt out of the water - was he a late bloomer ??
