Rice had about 3 attempts at fouling Chiesa in the lead up to his effort, really thought it could've come back for a card. Literally swung a kick at his ankles once he broke away more cleanly.

Twitter thinks England are playing great but I dunno if an 88 minute shut-out is the way to go about this. They’re not creating at all since the goal.

The term is cagey.

Its not been the most exciting, but England have looked relatively comfortable bar a moment from Chiesa.

Sterling and Kane having plenty of fun with the Italian oldies also.

Yeah other than the goal I imagine Italy are pretty happy really. Haven't had any bother and beginning to look threatening.

I expect the aim will be to keep things tight for the next 20 mins or so then bring on some fresh legs to increase the threat on the break.

I'm happy enough since the goal. Italy haven't really threatened any more than England have.

The goal was basically a fifa highlight goal, beautiful and clinical execution from everyone involved.

Late in the half England got very deep. They really need to be pushing up and keeping out of their final 1/3rd as much as they can. Chiesa looking dangerous.

It’s kinda hard psychologically to open the game up later like that when you’ve been defending a lead for so long.

You’re right to be happy, it’s working so far. It’s just that usually you want to keep a bit more goal threat when you go 1 up so early.

I think they've been poor since about 15 minutes in. Let Italy control more and more of the game in the first half, although granted the Italians didn't create much.

It's the sort of performance where if you win 1-0 then it's hailed as a defensive masterclass, but if Italy continue to control the tempo of the game and turn that into goals, then you start asking questions as to why you gave up the initiative.
