Asif was an amazing talent but you have plethora of superior fast bowlers from the 90s to chose from

Or should I pull Asif out and add Warne to the side and unleash Murali - Warne against batsmen of 65-90. Non of them has ever played anything close to that quality from a single end, let alone both ends.
Yeah, not a bad option at all...Warne, Murali, Ambrose, McGrath/Wasim...may be it's a good idea to go with Pollock in place of Kallis, Gilly bats at 6 then, anyways, not very sure how useful Kallis will be as a bowler against such a mighty line-up...and Dravid either as opener or no. 3. And I don't care whom I have to leave out...

Barry Richards doesn't belong in the discussion if this is about test cricket. Played only four tests. Not enough!

Whatever it takes!!!
Have only watched cricket since 89-90, so will go for the 90s-2015 side:

G Smith (c)
V Sehwag
B Lara
S Tendulkar
B Stokes
R Ponting (vc)
A Gilchrist (wk)
S Warne
W Akram
P Cummins
C Ambrose

On turning tracks, Murali can come in for one of the seamers and/or you may even replace Stokes with Shakib.

Not a good idea opening with Dravid in an ATG side as few of them have suggested. Neither am I in favour of having both Hayden and Sehwag against the likes of Marshall and Hadlee. Hayden and Smith will be an ideal combo.

Easiest would be to push Gilly to open and let Sanga have the gloves.

I don't think he will do any worse than the three openers people typically go with + he will complement Ponting very nicely.

Dravid has had decent success as an opener. Not a big thing at all. Ponting maybe the braver call, given he almost always had a very good opening pair to come in after.

Possibly but personally I am not in favour of experimenting with non-regular openers in an ATG side.

Graeme Smith

The opening position is the most specialized of batting positions. It lays the groundwork and foundation of the innings. It is not to be trifled with, nor experimented with in an AT XI. Stability and solidity is paramount and preferable over creativity.

Yes, Hayden - Sehwag is horrendous combination, Dravid - I will have him in the top order, if not opening, then no. 3. Since I wanted to have Ponting as well, that's why send Dravid up. Better equipped for opening and did open for India few times. Then Dravid bats at 3, Ponting out.
