Top 10 Greatest Fast Bowlers of All Time in Tests?

Ambrose has more match winning performances.
In Akram's defense, played fewer matches in his prime, and destruction god Waqar being the partner is not going to help either. Not to mention garbage fielding.
Still its super scary Ambrose.

Akram has better stats, only that his longevity ruined it.

Ambrose vs Akram.. Bit like Tyson vs Ali.. I think
What was his prime do you think?

Don't know the exact number but Waqar took very few five wicket hauls after 1995

Akram does not have better stats than Ambrose by any metric: average, SR, Wpm, away stats, econ etc. All are in favor of Amby.

More memorable spells with the red ball (name Wasim's great spells when he ran through top orders. Not a dig I just can't remember many) and better stats over all
Also Ambrose and Akram rank pretty equally among peer recognition, so in that case Ambrose should win based on superior record and spells.

Waqar's prime started in 1990 (he had a new slinging action after the 1989 Aussie series that really accelerated his reverse) to 1994 (he had a back injury in 1995 that reduced his pace considerably).

Sachin, Warne, Akram
Peer recognition champions. No contest.
Really?

I would say Sachin, Warne and Akram likely get the majority of peer recognition in their areas, but a fair number of 90s/2000s cricketers also cite Lara, Murali and Ambrose in my knowledge. Enough to not make it as nearly unanimous as Lillee and Viv in the 70s.

I can think of Warne, Mark Waugh, Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh, Greg Blewett, Mathew Hayden, Ponting, McGrath and perhaps a few other who have put Ambrose up there.

Pretty sure, Warne and Ponting rated Akram as the best.

I don't put much stock in the opinions of past players after hearing them commentate.*

*though even this has nuance. Broadcasters have strange opinions on what they think the public wants to hear, and commentators vary in quality depending on who they work for.

What I'd like to see is a list of top 10 batsmen not including the Don. That imo, would be even more contentious....

Frank Tyson was a far quicker bowler than Moeen Ali

Seriously though, all these attempts to dissect the careers of two great bowlers in a futile attempt to paint one as better than the other is pointless. Both were ATGs and comparisons are subjective.

BTW ... Frank Tyson was quicker than both and, on his day, more destructive.
