Looking at some stats and over the last 10 years, Kohli has played 91 tests and Williamson has played 80. The difference is basically 1 test per year which is less than I expected. Willamson has missed about 5 less games in his career than Kohli has but it's still not that significant.
What is the mix of opponents in those Tests played? There's certainly a perception amongst my cricket following friends that we always seem to be playing Bangladesh, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. England are relatively frequent visitors, not dissimilar to India but South Africa and Australia are reluctant visitors to NZ for Test cricket. These (and other) biases could have a significant impact on the Test table and, potentially, the relative quality of the teams at the respective ends of the table. We see this with how rarely Bangladesh have toured Australia - the last time being (I think) 2008. Haven't Bangladesh only played 2 Tests ever in Australia, both of which were in the far North? I don't think Zimbabwe have played in Australia since Hayden's 380.

The excitement of the test match is waning quickly for me. We've had 1 1/2 days of cricket over the last 4. That sucks. ICC should have made sure the test match goes on till the full number of overs are bowled or a result is arrived prior. I guess ICC doesn't anticipate well enough the situations (like the tied 2019 WC). They just take things to work out for granted.

I can see the sadness in your words mate it just one of those things we have to understand

I think it will be up to New Zealand to dictate how this match is going to go on with only two days remaining. Will they just bat normally and settle for a draw or will they try to score 300 in a day and then look to bowl India out on the final day? That’s the one way to win. It would take some doing, though.

The other way is to get bowled out close to India’s total and then skittle India for about 150 and then chase it on the final afternoon.

For India, I’m not sure how they win apart from bowling NZ out for under 175 and then scoring at over 5 an over to set up a declaration.

For a starter black caps won't be bowled out in under a session. Even if we struggle to put massive score we will see out close to two sessions. At the scoring rate we are at during this test match with heavy outfield we'll probably end up with 250 after two sessions. India will have to bat 2 sessions and score 250 runs and then allow NZ to score 200 in last two sessions. Just can't see this happening.

I'd be really surprised if we either don't win or draw this game, can't see us losing.

Another scenario is we bat all day pile 250 more runs. India will have to bat out the entire day on the last day.

No wonder the stakes are very high for a draw or a NZ win.

What a fitting end to such a limp dicked idea to hype up Test cricket.

On the plus side, the lack of English hospitality has denied NZ yet more silverware. This is a win.
Well, no...it actually hasn't. If it's a draw, we share the silverware. We are the inaugural Test champions, albeit joint.

I think the best chance for India to win to bowl well today and restrict NZ lead to less than 50, but then have their top order batting fail, then Pant + Jadeja throw the bat to get a lead of 150 - 180 around lunchtime tomorrow, then hope for a NZ choke. I don't think there is enough time for India to bat well in 2nd innings and get a lead that would allow Kohli to declare.

I think the scenario NZ will follow will be to bat sensibly for the first two sessions, trying to preserve wickets, get their noses in front, then have the lower order throw the bat in the final session. A 100+ run lead and half an hour bowling at India tonight would be ideal.

we'll be conservative i think, but nz should make cdg next man in provided its not second ball or over tonight. would compromise with sending him in after parity.

we need rapid runs. would be tempted to start elevating all the bowlers tbh.

Neither team will risk losing a finals. Only two results possible which is not bad if you are a BC supporter. Either we win or will end in a draw. We would have spent sever sleepless nights to watch what's supposed to the most important test in the last two years end in a draw which sucks.

Yeah, but I think NZ only increase their chances if they have CDG at #5 or #6 (depending on when wickets fall, India's lead and if we collapse in a heap first hour tonight) instead of BJ Watling scratching around for 25 (80) because the team isn't quite ****ed enough for him to go big.

If India go bang bang then it's Watling time obv and we pray we don't lose inside 4 days of play.
