I'm blaming nzfan for this as we were doing fine until he called it a day.
In other news, how on earth did Crawley make 260 against a pretty good Pakistan attack? It's increasingly looking like Tudor's unbeaten 99 against NZ all those years ago; highly impressive at the time, but completely out of character. Perhaps Tudor had the superior technique though.

Tbf to Crawley, he's played a few other legitimately good, if a bit unfulfilled, innings against other sides in various conditions too. He should be dropped now, barring something in the second innings, but he has done more than just the one innings and with more experience could well establish himself as a perfectly serviceable long-term option (which is probably as much as we can hope for!)

True. Didn't he go on a handy run of beating his previous best score each time? But nothing else like the 260 of course. I'd be sad to see him go actually. As others have said, he looks like his ceiling could be way higher than most. And I have no idea who else should be batting at 3 for us.

Another waste of an innings from Pope. ****ing sort it out young man.
We've barely brought through a youngster for the last decade. There's no real point getting excited by Crawley or Pope playing one nice innings because you know things are going to go to **** at some point.

Pope the more frustrating imo since his FC record really promised more than he's produced in tests on the whole. At least they're both young though, so you'd hope there's still room for development there

You'd be happy (and fortunate) to get an Ian Bell-lite sort of career out of either of them.

Wasn't there an Ashes series that Ian Bell more or less won by himself? Sometimes it feels like I dreamt it.
No that really happened. One of the strangest things. Hit three hundreds and I'm pretty sure they were all vital in winning games.

He did an interview after where he was like, 'I've heard people calling this Bell's Ashes, which is pretty cool' even though noone was actually using that phrase.
