For SA it seems like pretty much eternity with Elgar, although I'm hoping for some things from Verreynne, with or without bat.

Bavuma is a doudt with a hip injury. Seems only place up in the air is whether he is fit, if he isn't kyle verreyne will play.

Expected SA team:

1.Elgar
2.Markram
3.van der Dussen
4.Keegan Peteson
5.Bavuma/Verreyne
6.Quinton de Kock
7.Mulder
8.Maharaj
9.Anrich Nortje
10.KG
11.Ngidi

Almost a half decent team.

That’s not true.
He avgs just over 26 with a ball... not many of the current opening bowlers are better than that. Even in his own team Nortje is not as good stats wise.
I`m not saying he is the best available in the country, but for a man 8 matches into Test career not done a lot wrong. If I had my choice Nortje would not be playing either... but I`m also not gonna pretend that Nortje doesn't deserve his spot.

Personally would prefer dupavillion ahead of one of ngidi or nortje. But not happened yet. Hopefully the good a test will convince the selectors that he should at least be in the squad.

Dupavillion should be there. And I would personally be throwing Coetzee in the fire to help rebuild the team. Both those players are not in because of fitness issues, need to prove they can stay on the park for long periods.

I'm also a big fan of Sipamla who gets lots of movement, but not quite sure yet if he will make the next step up to the higher level. Think he has the ability.

Also: Migael Pretorius

Another thing, reading all the stories, I also think it says a lot about the management and selection of the team that we took 4 slow bowlers when all the indications are that we actually should have taken a few more pacers. I mean I struggle to believe that they could not have found that information out before arrival.

They do have Marco Jansen there, but we all know that they'll end up picking Hendricks ahead of him.

I`m not actually a big fan of Jansen. He is still young, but I feel he does not bowl the ball, as so much float it up there. He has all the potential attributes with height, left arm etc and I feel that is what he is being picked for, rather than what he actually does. I suspect he is going to go the way of Parnell. I desperately hope I`m wrong.

I think Ngidi has done fine, he's had a stop/start test career due to one thing or another but he's done well at home and will learn from playing in different conditions away from home.

Coetzee seems to be getting a lot of attention as the next big gun out of South Africa.

He has the potential to be one one of the next SA great bowlers... can bat a bit as well. If he and Rabada can get a partnership opening the bowling for SA in the next year or two, we are probably sorted for the next 8 to 10 years!

Of course needs to stay fit and actually get selected!

No way back for any of the returning kolpaks?

Possibly. But personally I`m not a fan. SA cricket floundered the continuity aspect of the team and looking at older players now only slows the progress of developing back into a quality team. But you can read all about it in the SA selection thread... been going on about it long enough!

I did think this as well tbh. All the noise before Proteas arrived was around slow low pitches and I thought to myself 'the matches are in St Lucia....'

It does seem like lazy management to me.

As expected. Will be interesting to see if Petersen or vdD bats 3?
