Whats the likelihood that one or more of Southee/Jaimeson/Wagner are given a rest for the second test with the idea of keeping them fresh for the final? Would getting another game to acclimatise to the dukes and sort out the conditions be more beneficial? Bit of a step down obviously if Henry has to come in for any of them (England I imagine would be pretty happy), though his county success may count for something.Anyway, so what about that cricket huh.
Boult is now in the mix for test 2. This obviously creates quite a few headaches. If KW wasn’t so reluctant to bowl Santner I’d say he’s a swap for CDG. As much as I love the man, and as handy as his bowling is, I don’t think we need five seam bowling options….then again, the way Kane bowls Santner, he’s more effective than someone who barely gets any overs. And yet, Santner could be considered unlucky because he should’ve had a stumping and by all accounts he was creating problems.
our batting looked shaky but then againI think it always does first test up on an overseas tour, so I’m inclined to keep the faith in Ross and bj. However, the thought of Santner at 7 does make me cringe a bit. Or, we could dayboo Rachin. It’s a risk so close to the WTC when we’ll want an experienced, settled side, but who knows - this could also be where legends begin.
what we’ll probably see
1. Latham
2. Conway
3. Williamson
4. Taylor
5. Nicholls
6. Watling
7. De Grandhomme
8. Jamieson
9. Wagner
10. Southee
11. Boult
what I’d like to see tbh
1. Latham
2. Ravindra
3. Williamson
4. Conway
5. Nicholls
6. Taylor
7. Watling
8. Jamieson
9. Wagner
10. Boult
11. Southee
Santner might benefit from a game off with his cut finger, anyway … which they said happened in the warm up game, so obviously needs a bit of time to heal. Not sure if that was why he was bowling such absolute crap in the second innings, but it couldn’t have helped.Anyway, so what about that cricket huh.

Perfect opportunity IMO to debut Rachin as a spinning allrounder (who will likely do no worse than Santner) to give him his first taste of international cricket. Or Ajaz if they think they want a proper spinner in the mix for Southampton.
Didn't think about resting. Tbh give Southee a rest, he clearly knows the conditions and tours England well. Jamieson could get used to the conditions and Wags seemed on the comeback trail in the 2nd innings and we know he just loves to play.Santner might benefit from a game off with his cut finger, anyway … which they said happened in the warm up game, so obviously needs a bit of time to heal. Yep I’d be tempted to have a straight swap of Boult for Southee. And would be happy to see Ajaz get a game ahead of Santner.Didn't think about resting. In that case I hope the cracks are moreishIf it's flat and yella, you've got Santner there fella
If it's cracked and brown you're in Ajaz town
And, of course, in Australia, the whole thing's flip-floppedIf it's flat and yella, you've got Santner there fella
If it's cracked and brown you're in Ajaz town
Leaving out Watling is a bootable offenceObviously Stead and Kane will persist with Santner, CDG and Henry. We've tried Santner and Henry more than enough. Unfortunately they haven't delivered even in favourable conditions for their skills.
If the pitch is green then
Latham
Conway
Kane
Taylor
Nicholls
Blundell
Darryl Mitchell
Doug
Wagner
Duffy
Boult
If the pitch is brown, there's been sun and looks like it's going to offer any turn then (Ideal to play Ajaz but Kane won't bowl him. It'll be a waste of resource with Ajaz not able to contribute with the bat)
Latham
Conway
Kane
Taylor
Nicholls
Ravindra
Blundell
Doug
Wagner
Duffy
Boult
Jamieson, Southee and BJ rested.
Not leaving him out, resting him... it's bloody hard work to keep in 3 test matches in a space of 20 days.Leaving out Watling is a bootable offence
Imagine announcing retirement from your illustrious career and then being rested from one of the 2 Test matches you have leftYou guys underestimate the kind of work that goes into fast bowling and wicket keeping. At the end of a test match the legs will be like concrete. Fast bowling is all about energy and if you're tired its nigh hard to perform. If we want them to perform at their best then rest is going to be required. If we lose toss and England bats these guys are in already bowling loads of overs. Looks like the Edgbaston is going to be flat as. Just because we rest BJ and couple of fast bowlers doesn't mean we can't win. We have 20 men squad for a reason.
