Hearing comments (tweets by Bumble tbf) that this was an all time bad test. I don’t get it. Relatively closely contested, good balance between bat and ball, the team who were a bit behind the game batted well to save it. Would have been an excellent test but for a day rained off. Since when was test cricket *not* about that.

I’m gonna nail my flag to the mast now: Taylor should be dropped for the second test. He looked awful in this one (should’ve been out lbw in the second innings in the same manner as the first). Yeah, Will Young has issues with his front pad as well, but at least he’s been making runs in FC cricket. Young averaged 42 for CD last season. Taylor managed just 25.

Taylor is a great of NZ cricket, and I’m gutted that this has happened now of all times. But no man is bigger than the team, and NZ have to be ruthless if they want to win.

While Taylor won’t be dropped, think he should seriously consider dropping down to no.5 or 6. Aside from the openers, Nicholls looks the most in form batsman at the moment and could step up to no.4 for these two games. Obviously you don’t want to fix what isn’t broken but the signs aren’t great.

KW was also very scratchy and needs a substantial knock at Edgbaston. Gotta have the top 4 raring to go for the final.

Don’t think moving him down the order will help with the Duke nipping around for the majority of the 80 overs. Also Nicholls is going well at 5 so I’d be reluctant to move him.

He won't be dropped but I agree it is just incredibly hard to see Taylor scoring runs in the next two tests. Which means in principle he should be dropped - Young or Rachin both worthy replacements. A feeling of inevitability as he limps through the next two tests though. Sigh.

Happy with how a lot of the side is playing though - despite not winning due to rain it was a good performance. Boult in next test for Santner, don't care that five seamers is unbalanced. Williamson to score runs.

I'm not too worried about the batting. We'll be all right. Kane is never out of form. Watch out a double in on cards for Kane. Not expecting Ross to score 100s but will definitely score crucial 60+ when desperately needed. Rest of the batting in Latham, Nicholls and BJ will be all right. Can't expect everyone to fire but one of these three will score big.

Southee, Jamieson and even Wagner need resting. Can't see them playing back to back test matches with very little rest in-between. At least rest two of the three to keep them fresh. All three are going to play anyways in the finals.

The hold one end up is getting ridiculous. We've got to the finals by playing 4 attacking bowlers. Between CDG and Santner we bowled 45 wicket less overs. Literally two sessions in a test match. I can't see how any top test side can accommodate two bowlers to hold one end up.

Knowing how Stead and Kane pick the team, Kane got Santner this test match so Stead will get to play Henry in the next

I think Henry will play the next test. Daryl or Doug for CDG would be nice.

Oh and Tom Blundell for BJ. BJ will need some rest too. Thankfully we have a large squad.

played england, and sibley in particular. a lot of players in the nick he's in would have snicked off half an hour into the second dig. tough effort, did what he needed to do. i like it.

boult in for southee and ajaz in for santner. let's have a look at the other contenders.

im guessing england will do some sort of rotation thing. stone looks gun, bring him in. robinson seems to have the wood on nz atm so overton like for like perhaps.

People love something to complain about nowadays, don't they. Nothing bad about this Test at all, some top quality swing bowling, an incredible double ton on debut, another guy who dominated on debut, and even a bold declaration to try and get a result. It wasn't an all-time great pitch but as you say, without the day rained off there's probably a tight result.

What is the logic behind it ? ?
There's none, or at least very little. I've never had to use this term before but it's cancel culture at its worst. There's nothing to be gained from suspending him over a fine, a public apology (already done) and maybe some community work, some other remediation.

I feel deeply sorry for Robinson. I know 9 years ago, I was an imbecile too who could have conceivably tweeted something like that. I wouldn't see any justice in being nailed to the cross for it.

Agree it's dumb for England to suspend Robinson here - counterproductive. Also an annoying distraction from the cricket.

I guess if England didn't treat this series like a warm up for India then it's fair they went for the draw. I can understand that. Going into the second test 0-0 is a great outcome for England. One good spell, one good session or some good batting and if England can somehow win the next test then it's a win win. When I said declare with 250 lead some here thought England cannot block so 300+ should be set. Well they showed they can block all right. Root looking in ominous form, any other day and he was facing Santner he would have taken 100 of just Santner.

Haha, no. Not quite. But I remember 9 years ago being a very different world in general. There's some benefit to how accountable people are for their actions nowadays, but there's also some negatives.

Trawling through social media timelines, in order to find something offensive that has sat there dormant for almost a decade and will cause no offense unless you actively seek it out, I dunno - it's just insane to me. I cannot get my head around this generation and faction of people who seek this stuff out.

If England suspend Robinson and bring Craig Overton that'll be a joke  I think Overton was suspended for being racist on the field from memory.

England is a vibrant society, all races generally live in harmony but county cricket of late has had many racist instances. I think Yorkshire had one too couple of three years ago. Was it Adam Gale? These seem to happen frequently in UK cricket. There's no room for this and in particularly sports. Can you imagine a player in NZ being told go back to your country or some **** racist slur used against a player in domestic cricket? That's unimaginable.

Cancel culture isn't a thing, a one match ban for a guy who was old enough to vote and fight for his country when making these tweets, whilst being contracted to a County, is about right I'd have thought.

it's not being nailed to the cross it's a one match ban FFS, honestly as always the people reacting to "cancel culture", and things pertaining to it, are as always the most histrionic.
