I don’t know what he said, it must be some of the worst stuff ever posted on the internet, but banning a guy for something he tweeted as a teenager almost a decade ago, bloody hell

In saying that this is a board that sent there team out in some bizarre messaged up singlets during the national anthem.

Michael Vaughan saying England should have made an effort and could have shut up shop with 4 down. 4 down is one wicket away from the tail.
BBC Sport was unreadable this afternoon. Nothing but bleating about how we were murdering Test cricket by not flailing at every ball. This was one of the greenest batting lineups we've ever fielded.

Imagine what would have been said if everyone played a shot like Crawley and we'd inevitably been bowled out for 100. Probably nothing as bad as Sibley got for playing a gutsy innings.

Yeah do not understand this reaction. England had to bat quite well to secure the draw, and they go into the next test with the series alive. Not every 4th innings has to be a thrilling chase like Gabba 2021 or Old Trafford 2020.

The reaction is the same reason why there's always reactions columnists and broadcasters are only interested in huge controversy, so they generate it, clicks is all that matters, see the Osaka thing, (we had huge condemnation then huge support for the sainted one, not sure either ends of the spectrum was appropriate) and well pretty much everything in modern discourse.

It was an okay day for england, not very exciting, if we had Stokes and/or Buttler we may have gone for it, we didn't so fair enough. Headlines eluding to that won't generate clicks and comments though, so we are where we are.

Heard the argument that Root shouldn't have been at four but the other guys (Pope, Lawrence, Bracey) should have been given time to learn to block and then Root could save it from seven if they needed to. thoughts?

Nah, the other guys haven't proven they can survive much, just needs one great ball to Root dand we are down to an hideous tale.

we did right, wasn't fun, but the day being lost stopped any chance of much fun.

A lotta talk about England, but KW’s field sets also could’ve been more aggressive. He reverted to 2 slips and a gully pretty early in England’s innings. Not that that’s totally unreasonable with a moderate total to defend. A result either way was lways super unlikely because in spite of the sideways movement the bounce and pace in the wicket generally made surviving fairly straight forward.

They seemed to be pushing "Williamson made a good, aggressive declaration" and "England have a good chance of winning this if they give it a go". But they can't both be true.

I’m gonna nail my flag to the mast now: Taylor should be dropped for the second test. He looked awful in this one (should’ve been out lbw in the second innings in the same manner as the first). Yeah, Will Young has issues with his front pad as well, but at least he’s been making runs in FC cricket. Young averaged 42 for CD last season. Taylor managed just 25.

Taylor is a great of NZ cricket, and I’m gutted that this has happened now of all times. But no man is bigger than the team, and NZ have to be ruthless if they want to win.

When I first saw the headline I was like "wtf lol" but then realised this guy will only "banned" for a short time most likely while this blows over and enough people are satisfied that he's been sufficiently punished.

You know how journalism works right? They probably don't even really believe what they're writing, but as long as they get reactions like yours then they're doing their job

maybe he just needs a new prescription

The logic is, that you can't make bold statements about anti-racism, and anti-bullying, and then allow someone doing all that to remain totally unpunished.

FTR I am not sure what I would have done, but TBH the ECB were damned if they did, damned if they didn't.

Gawd knows what team we'll pick for Edgbaston though, can't imagine they had any intention of playing, Broad, Wood, Anderson in consecutive matches.

Think Leach and Stone should probably get a game, bold to put Cove in as well, but I guess it will be on how the oldies are holding up.

Personally after seeing Bracey's performance, would be happy to see Pope get the gloves and drop him, but that's probably harsh.
