Reference to an earlier post (from straw man I think) on how NZ’s 34+ lot are past it, but well played
Weird to be writing players off of that age after a long break in first class cricket, history tells you they sometimes need a game or two to find their form. Not like there are clear obvious replacements in the squad and they all have so much in the bank it is bizarre to criticise them really.

Is the pitch really full of demons? If ENG were to score at 3.25 or thereabouts, they'd have a target of 80 in the remaining 16 overs. Could have given NZ a scare.

Yeah agree for the most part, this is still first the first game so can’t read a ton into it. As regards this lot (Taylor, Watling, CdG) there are in fact replacements in the squad who’ve done pretty well in the opportunities they’ve received (Young, Blundell, Mitchell) but obviously their inexperience makes their selection at this stage a gamble. FWIW I share the concerns around Taylor.

England would be pretty happy going into Edgbaston 0-0 along with blunting NZ on the final day. Shame about the rain.

Yeah, could've been a very good test if we'd not lost Friday.

Think NZ pretty much held the whip hand throughout and credit to Williamson for not taking the draw as soon as it was offered.

That said I not going wade in on England for not giving it a "proper go". The real politik of the situation is we don't have the batters to do it in this XI.

Michael Vaughan saying England should have made an effort and could have shut up shop with 4 down. 4 down is one wicket away from the tail.

What is the logic behind it ? ?
The logic is, that you can't make bold statements about anti-racism, and anti-bullying, and then allow someone doing all that to remain totally unpunished.

FTR I am not sure what I would have done, but TBH the ECB were damned if they did, damned if they didn't.

Gawd knows what team we'll pick for Edgbaston though, can't imagine they had any intention of playing, Broad, Wood, Anderson in consecutive matches.

Think Leach and Stone should probably get a game, bold to put Cove in as well, but I guess it will be on how the oldies are holding up.

Personally after seeing Bracey's performance, would be happy to see Pope get the gloves and drop him, but that's probably harsh.
