*Official* New Zealand in England 2021

I think England are playing this perfectly tbh. 213 in 40 overs is the kind of chase where you can win even if you score 25/0 in 10 overs. Take it deep, and if there is a chance in the last 90 minutes or so, take a swing.

Or be boring and bat out the draw like a team full of boring people.

There was mention early in the thread of a match where John Wright batted all day for 55 not out and a few who weren’t around wondered how that was possible. Imagine a left handed Sibley batting like he has here. Though to be fair that was a tough pitch that set New Zealand up for a win.

If they had one of Stokes and Buttler yeah then probably.

As it stands everyone except Root in the lineup knows they have the axe over their head if they don't save the draw

Yea but 'pragmatic career decisions' is boring.

Where has the romance gone? The desire to win against the odds, to play every single Test as though it would be your last?

This is why I miss Afridi so much.

This has to be Englands dullest batting order ever, they need to bring buttler and stokes back if they mentally fit to play cricket to add some spark

Not sure what Santner's plan is here (middle & leg stump attack?), but he's not looking very threatening at all.

I don’t see how the England setup can defend this approach. It’s not about ‘going for it’, it’s about being positive and at least giving themselves a chance of going for it.

I'm off to sleep, can't keep my eyes open with this snoozefest from England. I know it's an understrength side, but if you don't back yourself to win then you shouldn't be out there.

England have been on the backfoot for all of the game. They'll be happy getting out with a draw, especially with the batting they have.

If Santner has split his spinning finger it seems a bit fruitless bowling him.

A ball wet with his own blood probably isn't very conducive to the finger spinner's art.

And Sibley just body checks Root. I think we're done as a contest, aren't we?
