It's a half truth. The Brown Wash term was actually coined by Indian fans on the 86 tour of England after they won the first two Tests after the West Indies had consecutively white washed England and the West Indies fans called it a black wash.

Yeah, I remember the 1980s reference. I think it was even suggested after the first test of the 1984/5 tour, although we turned that one around of course.
