Ah that makes sense. Did the former Soviet states not have a crack? I remember they played as CIS at euro 92
They weren't allowed to get their federations off the ground because the draw already had been made (except the three small Baltic states who had got out early but those guys always preferred basketball and handball anyway). Russia just took over the USSR spot, so many of the eligible players had to choose between actually getting a game for Russia and on very flimsy grounds (Salenko, the five-goal guy, is arguably more of a Ukrainian). Can't have been good for team cohesion.

Andrei Kanchelskis played for Russia too despite being Ukrainian. I don't think he went the WC mind you.

I'd forgotten that the Conference (okay National League) is still going on. Notts County beat Chesterfield today and will be away to Torquay in the semi-final next weekend. Hartlepool play Bromley tomorrow and the winners are away to Stockport next weekend. The Final is at Ashton Gate (bizarre choice but never mind) on June 20th.

Weird thing that Conference play-off, yeah you get the home tie, but dunno, the chip-nickers will have not played for ages, gotta be a problem, hey let's hope County get back in the League.

Furball, was Gazza still with you in 98? Do you think Hoddle made the right decision?
We sold him to Middlesbrough in March 1998.

Hoddle was 100% correct. Gascoigne was a drunken mess and was **** for us in 1997/98. We were chasing 10 in a row and we saw fit to sell him in the run in, which should tell you all you need to know.

Christ Salenko was absolute garbage. One of the slowest players I've ever seen.

Oddly enough he never played for Russia again after scoring 5 goals against Cameroon.

I wasn’t expecting any PAFC players in the League One team of the season, but it’s quite funny to see four Sunderland players in it.

Hartlepool beat Bromley in the Conference so it'll be an old boy returning to the League via the play offs. I'd rather like to see Torquay back in. Our "local" derby next season is a 320 mile round trip to Cheltenham.

Prefer Stockport for locality or Notts for a good away day. But the other two are less likely to trouble the promotion spots

Torquay can go **** themselves, tin-pot little pensioner back-water, Prefer Hartlepool, at least they had the courage to hang that intruding monkey/Frenchspy, a Derby with the chip-nickers is always like kissing your gran.
