Ouch... 95 mph. Took his eyes off. Wondered why they didn't bowl too him there earlier but that'd wake him up. He'll pull out the west Indian pulls. Wait for the pulls from Conway now. When he's attacked he attacks more from what I've seen.

Conway is so not an opener.

Through the first hour now though, hopefully he makes it a big one.
You know a case could be made that Latham isn't either given he does pretty well against spin and doesn't do so well at leaving balls outside off stump.

One wonders how he'd go playing his shots a bit more.

Yeah I think Latham would score more runs lower down as well. It's so rare for NZ to find someone who does alright opening in Tests that moving the vaguely successful ones is basically a non starter though.

I'd find it a shame if Conway's future was a 40-averaging opener when I think it could be more notable, but NZ would probably take it.

I remember thinking this when Latham hit his hundred in SL in 2019. The ball was really starting to fizz out of the footmarks, and he just backed himself and started playing his shots and looked fantastic. I'd hoped it'd be the start of something for him, but his performances since then have very much been a return to his general underachievement.

Whatever it takes!!!
Early days yet, but it looks like KW wants to get the bat on ball far more than I remember from him usually at the start of a test knock.

Kane’s a very fine player but the scoreboard never lies

The intensity has definitely picked up a bit with Wood and Robinson coming on. Good contest out in the middle.
