There's supposition that if he opens with the Duke he might be handy - took an absurd amount of wickets bowling for Kent a few seasons back. But it's probably going to require an injury for him to get into the XI.

Yup not going to be easy for Devon, would have loved to see him in the middle order but rather see him play than not. The man has a way to adapt to any situation and challenges. Although not a natural keeper he did a wonderful job in T20s. Performed like no other player from the past despite having been drafted in when he's nearly 30. Michael Hussey vibes...

I think Santner can bat. He can definitely score some decent runs. Maybe he's improved his bowling, maybe he's bowling better than the other two spinners in the nets. He could be Kane's pick but he barely bowls him though. I'm not sure why Kane would back Santner but not bowl him enough. Even the test we won at mount vs Pakistan he was hesitant to bowl Santner. Santner's away record is not great but a chance to redeem that.

I'm stoked for Conway but I decided a little while ago that demanding he be selected in very specific circumstances was a great way to stack up excuses if he doesn't actually end up one of the best ten bats in the world.

On Santner possibly being Kane's pick despite his aversion to bowling him, it might be that he wouldn't bowl Ajaz much either as such prefers Santner given the batting and fielding advantages he offers.

There is a time and place to bowl NZ spinners and it's generally in overs 15-40 of an ODI. Kane as captain is just prepared for that to come up

After Ahmedabad that’s a distinct possibility, though NZ are also likely to give Leach a lot more respect than India did.

On NZ’s last tour Kane did in fact team up with Mark Craig to ensure a final day victory at Leeds. Can’t recall if that was before his action was reported though.

As much as Santner is. But yeah, Henry has had more than enough opportunity to exhibit that he isn't a Test bowler. Even on green ones and with the Duke, never offered enough.

CdG will start (unless Santner takes his spot and they go with four specialist quicks, which is unlikely). Major question marks around his fitness and lack of recent matchplay, but worth giving him some time to find his groove as he’s an ideal sort of player to have in English conditions.

Thing about Henry is, even if you accept the English conditions and Duke might push him up to test level, the same conditions also boost Southee, Jamieson, CDG, Wagner (and his I Can Pitch The Ball Up Too You Know act) and even Mitchell or Bracewell. Making Henry redundant again.
