What is your ALL TIME WORLD XI TEAM for tests?

I'm just trying to think of the best distinction between Ian Chappell and Greg Chappell. Is it that when they played Ian was a bit of a **** while Greg was a bit of a wanker?

No they were both colossal cheats and dire sportsman. The only difference was Ian readily admitted it while Greg was a bit more surreptitious to begin with and slightly underarmhand.

Trying to work out how you think Ian was a cheat. Is there some incident I'm not aware of, or is it just he used nasty words and his bowlers were a bit too quick?

Greg, of course, played completely to the letter of the law in the underarm incident. But remember kids, when Jardine used the then laws to jag a win, it was tactical genius. When GC did it, he deserves opprobrium forever. (Y)

Edit: the comment re the underarm thing is directed less at LT than the general wahhhhhhhhhhhh about it

It's apparently okay to do whatever you like if you are wearing a wanky hat

Tbf England and Jardine did, and still do, cop a lot of flack about Bodyline. Maybe even just as much as underarm but the latter is just more recent

That’s probably it. My distain for the great Australian fast bowlers of the 70’s is self evident. :hypocrite

Am genuinely interested in the Chappelli cheating thing though. More because I'd have expected to have heard it before now than anything else, if there was some specific incident I mean.

Not sure why Ian Chappell is regarded with so much animosity here. Sure he's somewhat ornery and opinionated but I've always found him to be fundamentally fair in his media work.

Whatever it takes!!!
I did not see either of the Chappells as players... always thought Ian was a pretty good commentator.. opinionated and can be repetative at times, but given the quality of commentary and how biased it gets across the world, he was actually one of the best for a while, esp. in the 00s. At least he was fair and forthright.

Was there a pitch tampering incident?

He was a big sledger as he led the 'Ugly Australians" (is infamous for having a crack at Glen Turner when GT got a century in each innings when NZ first beat Oz), but I've never read anything about cheating.

He always banged on about the fusarium pitch, when the Poms cheated on the 72 tour.

In fact he never really shut up about it. Not sure if there was anything else.

The pitch was dug up and sprayed with oil at Headingley in 75 overnight between the 4th and 5th day and the match abandoned. There was never any suggestion that Ian Chappell paid them to do it. :smartass:
