How can you be so sure he knew the results of the series? Maybe only Warner and Bancroft knew. There've already been reports that they're preparing for Paine to hand over to Smith in a few months time, maybe after the ashes. Smith didnt exactly look distraught that Australia had been embarassed at home by India's C team.
I bet I got more friends in India than you do.It seems to have made a difference in the short run. Let's hope it sticks.
Surely the bowlers knew. How can you be so sure he knew the results of the series? Maybe only Warner and Bancroft knew.
Let's go to Gabba (Taj Mahal) to decide.I bet I got more friends in India than you do.
Perma banned from captaining internationally unfortunately.Davey is the best captain in the squad tbh. Unfortunately the backlash that would ensue would be too big for them to contemplate it.
Numbers are:Will be very interesting to see the Aussie trio's numbers pre and post Newlands and compare the drop, if any, with other players.
tbf I don't think any Australians here think he should be captain post-Paine. I certainly don't as letting it happen is a significant flaw to his leadership. In which case Smith should never return to the helm as the skipper of his national side ever again. When you're not completely aware of what's happening around you as a skipper you don't deserve to be one.
Ban Lyon for 10 years as he was clearly benefiting from the tampering.Numbers are:
Cummins pre-Newlands: 25.10, post: 19.72
Starc pre-Newlands: 28.17, post: 26.06
Hazlewood pre-Newlands: 26.00, post: 24.77
Lyon pre-Newlands: 31.76, post: 33.21
Decline in all the quicks (and ball tampering is to the advantage of seamers in general), though the bowlers are in their peak right now which isn't the case with their pre-Newlands figures. And only Cummins has a significant discrepnency anyway.
so what exactly is Brettig crying about?Numbers are:
Cummins pre-Newlands: 25.10, post: 19.72
Starc pre-Newlands: 28.17, post: 26.06
Hazlewood pre-Newlands: 26.00, post: 24.77
Lyon pre-Newlands: 31.76, post: 33.21

I don't think you'll find many people here who disagree. Certainly that's my view.In which case Smith should never return to the helm as the skipper of his national side ever again. When you're not completely aware of what's happening around you as a skipper you don't deserve to be one.
Probably a case of the other alternatives being questionable. Warner banned from captaincy, Marnus lacks seasoning, the other bats aren't secure in the team and there seems to be an unwritten rule about the captain being a batsman.Apart from the ability to score runs, Smith wasn’t a particularly good captain anyway
No idea why there’s a push to return him and particularly after SA
