Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

Whatever it takes!!!
It's dumb how the whole "legspinning allrounder turned premier batsman" myth came to be. Was averaging 56 in FC before debut ffs.
Yeah but it was off 14 games and you can see why no one was proclaiming him the next great or whatever. And he was selected as a leggie who "can bat" for this game too.

Think it was in early 2013 in India that he was finally considered as a specialist batsman.

Not really when you consider his main expsoure was limited overs for Aus, and for a couple years he batted 8 struggling to average 20 while bowling 5-10 overs a game.

He was technically selected as a specialist bat in the 2010-11 Ashes but he was still quite bad

Its interesting to see how his technique evolved over the years

Before any modification to the domestic technique

Change of the bat swing

Developing the shuffle mid way through this innings

More or less where he was now

Its also interesting to note that some players barely changed their stance and style over the years

Puberty can hit you very differently

Both Virat and Steve Smith have said on record they felt they batted better once they gave up the bat tap in the stance. I always batted with the bottom of the bat hitting the pitch. Is it really such a big thing?

I suppose at that level it probably makes a difference, even (or rather, especially so) if it is mental.

Yeah just wondering the movement being in one direction, instead of two as it can be if your stance has the bat hitting the pitch, makes a big difference. I think I have seen players use different stances to fast bowlers and spinners too. I mean, the bat tap is probably not such a big issue when facing spin, perhaps.

I think it was just an F U from him to the selectors.. Basically telling them I can make runs no matter which direction I am looking at as the bowler's running in.

Seriously though, I think his current rocks or diamonds avatar maybe due to this stance. Has a very perilous early period but once set, everything flows smoothly.

Let's take a look at the 8 highest paid captains in international cricket.

1. Joe Root The England Test captain earns GBP 870000/- as annual salary (Rs 8.97 crore) from the England and Wales Cricket Board. Eoin Morga, the World Cup winning England limited overs captain, pales in comparison as he draws a meagre GBP 170000 from the ECB, equivalent of Rs 1.75 crore.

2. Virat Kohli The Indian captain in all three formats falls into the lucrative A+ contract and earns Rs 7 crore per annum as salary.

3. Tim Paine The Australian Test captain Paine earns AUD 1 million (Rs 5.6 crore) while his white ball counterpart Aaron Finch too earns a similar sum.

4. Dean Elgar The South African Test captain Elgar earns Rs 3.2 crore annually from Cricket South Africa, while limited-overs captain Temba Bavuma gets Rs 2.5 crore every year.

5. Kane Williamson The affable New Zealand captain, who is the current No 1 Test batsman, is paid Rs 1.77 crore by the New Zealand Cricket. Both Kohli and Williamson will come face to face during the WTC Final, starting on June 18 at Southampton.

6. Kraigg Brathwaite The West Indies Test leader Brathwaite earns Rs 1.39 crore per year from the WICB, while limited-over skipper Kieron Pollard gets Rs 1.73 crore per annum from the board.

7. Babar Azam Pakistan captain Azam, who recently leapfrogged Kohli as the No 1 ODI batsman in the ICC Rankings, gets Rs 62 lakh per year from the Pakistan Cricket Board.

8. Dimuth Karunaratne The Sri Lankan skipper Karunaratne earns Rs 51 lakh per year through his contract with the SLC, while white ball captain Kusal Perera gets Rs 25 lakh in a year

Can anyone explain how SA & WI captains are earning more than Babar?
while
Pakistan has more population & the only major sport here is Cricket.

Is PCB more incompetent than CSA / WICB ?

I'm shocked that Kohli isn't in his own stratosphere well above all the rest. But as I type this I now realise this is just salary not including endorsements and other income

Which is why I think Babar's figure is misleading too. It is possible PCB moved more money to PSL from the funds they had for the national side. In a way, it does help the domestic players a bit more, so I wont be too unhappy about that part.

because Babar earns that as a base salary. He gets added revenue from matches played in international + psl etc
