Both my teams host ataraXIa too. The Schmatlzberg affiliate for a full 50-over affair Friday morning and a potential T20 exhibition upset Monday morning.

Today I forgot to give my high movement specialist the new ball and so the main team deservedly went down by a bucketload of runs. Another excellent rearguard by Menno Fouche who is truly developing into a special counterpuncher though.

104 run opening partnership in 22 overs for FHK vs ataraXIa. Kovrig 37, Chow 36 and extras 31! 16 year old offie Shingirai Ndaba the biggest culprit, bowling 13 wides in his 8 overs so far.

30 year old former SA Nat spinner Austin Hyde has had a tidy start to his spell, his remaining 7 overs will be key. Rest of the ataraxia's bowlers have been decent but don't have any wickets to show for it. The platform has been set for FHK's middle order to launch, a 250ish score should be plenty for Yin and Shum to defend.

FHK rating 54.4K to ataraXIa's 42.7K

Like, I went to bed last night knowing that I'd get thrashed, and a wee bit peeved at having to face a side 10+ rating points ahead of me, but then that happened!

If I was going to win, I'd expect incredible bowling by Goliath & Hyde and managing to play out Lai and get Yau out early. But that didn't really happen.

1/3 of the game was took up by Kovrig and Chow grinding, but they still managed to keep the RR up at 5 an over. Tin Yau came in and thrashed my bowlers, but wickets soon fell quickly before a good 7th wicket partnership took FHK to 294/6.

My opening partnership was odd: Frost hit his second-highest score in his 30-oddth game against the best quality opposition he's faced at a good pace, and Saadi - like he did against a 51K WCC - just wasted balls without getting runs. Shaffrey then got a start without capitalising on it, and Murdoch didn't score much, but Nicky Clift went on an assault, hitting 67 off 48 in partnership with Shaffrey.

I still needed 76 off 56 went Clift and Shaffrey went. Mitch Armstrong came out and hit a six first ball. He often gets about 20 at the right pace, so that's why I keep him in my side for now despite his very low potentials. Meanwhile, Aylmer - normally my no. 3, this time batting at 6 - smashed around the bowlers and in combination with a timely Hyde innings chased down the target. Won with 4 wickets and 8 balls to spare.

Whew.

in a more normal game of U21 cricket Winton has posted a solid 193/8 and ataraXIa are trying to chase against their eight bowlers
Until now Nuwan Soosaipillai had done well for us - held his own in a couple of senior friendlies but not having his best day with the ball - I feel like his 2 remaining overs will be key in deciding this outcome - that and/or dismissing Dee asap!

20-run loss in the end that. Dee carrying his bat while facing less than a third of the balls is odd. I think that's the first time Armstrong has really had the opportunity to construct a proper innings, and a 37 off 54 from him is not unexpected. Frost's 4-43 kind of ruined his Fr. DEV bowling figures... 14 wickets from 5 games at 6.2 now. Dee's a good player, 41 potential. Has a good record in the DEVs he's played as well.

Worth putting on the TM? My current coaching set up won’t get him anywhere near his potential will it?

In-game training is more important than coaching, and as a new team you have the chance to give him a lot of time. On the TM he might not fetch a lot of money because he can't bat and doesn't have a bowling trait (although I'm notoriously bad at predicting the TM)

He's a Nat quality bowler, should fetch around a mill if not more.

Depends how much you want to play the TM and the current state of your squad. You can sell him and use the money to buy several other decent players, but that's more effort and if you make the wrong purchases will be a bit of a waste.

Personally I'd keep him. More fun having a home grown club legend that you can build your side around.

Oh wow didn't know potential was worth that much - I presumed because they were young they would be seen as a bit of a gamble in terms of reaching their full potential!

Younger players are more likely to reach their potential with the right coaching/opportunities, so are worth more.

It's when they're older and some distance away from their potential that their value reduces

Cool, that is useful info to know when it comes to weekly youth recruits - I think I underestimated how quickly players can improve with opportunities/coaching
