What is your ALL TIME WORLD XI TEAM for tests?

People have terrible memories. That 90s Zim team was awful. They were at best passable in ODIs (though they did finish behind both England and Australia A in a quad series they played here during the time period). But in tests they were bad. They literally had 3 test victories in the 90s, which is the same number as Bangladesh won in the 00s. Bangladesh were way worse, of course, but Zimbabwe were truly deserving of the minnow moniker.

Bangladesh between 00 and 10 were not test standard. They were barely first class standard. Beating the West Indies in 09 was considered the nadir of Windies cricket for a reason.

But don't get romantic about Zimbabwe in the 90s, they were awful too.

That Zimbabwe team couldnt win much, but they could fight and draw alot of matches. As for ODI's, That format was where they were dominant in compared to tests, and were defs not minnows during a certain 3-4 years in that timeline.

Honestly the reason why Zimbabwe 90s gets tagged as elite/overhyped is because fricken India would go on losing like what eleven times to them or something and then kenya like twice. And because India is now a great team with a huge fanbase, those squads are remembered and are never forgotten for great memories of beating them. but honestly its not a overrated hype, they were legit good and could've been better if test status was with them earlier.

Kevin Curran - Heath Streak - Duncan Fletcher all 3 carry Kapil's stats. Thats three Kapil's in their ATG team. Possibly a very close atg team to india's atg due to the bowling lineup. So a well deserved and rightful praise for their 90s team.

I'm not opposed to Headley opening - I've got him opening in my WI AT XI - but I'm just intrigued as to what that FC opening record is? AFAIK no site has FC averages in batting position, sadly.
I had to manually go through all his domestic scorecards and find where he opened

Innings scores when Opened (George Headley)
64
49*
98
61
20
155*
84

Total = 531 runs in 7 innings at an average of 106.20

Cool, kudos to you for searching through 103 scorecards. Bit annoying that this information isn't easily accessible.

Forget India, dude...they were shithouse till not very long ago. Just saying, a side can't be a bonafide minnow if they're beating a proud cricketing nation like Pak's ATG sides in Tests both home and away. As a fan you must have been mortified; I would be if India lost to Bangladesh/Pakistan today.

this is factbaiting lad, and with sachin contributing the most for these memorable wins ?. Totally not a statpadder. A complete match winner. I mean its not like he had rahul, dhoni, sehwag and laxman by his side. Oh an how can i forget legendary bowlers kumble and zak

Boys i understand you guys wanna troll/flamebait any pakistani 24/7 but srsly at least consider your own teams history before bothering unless you want humiliation. Also you guys look really stupid liking eachothers comment LMAOOO

Agreed. Massive chokers, both, as you well know, but such ignominy is not expected of the Ws and Mushtaq when donning the holy green of god's fated nation.
quite odd you wont criticize the many other nations that happened to concur some freak loses against zimbabwe? but don w's with some immortal aura who arent allowed to lose

Not to the lowliest of lowlies in that most glorious format of bat and ball, no, maxxxy, they aren't. Limited overs defeats against bottom-feeders may sting but they pale in comparison to such a stain that botches the legacy of the grand cricketing culture that they were born and raised in.

They had a couple good players, and were easily better than 00s Bangladesh but still very fair to call them minnows in Tests. They were comfortably weaker than every other side and barely won a game. Other than Flower and, briefly Murray Goodwin, their batting wasn't even FC level for most countries. They were a very solid ODI side in the 90s though.

Definitely unfair to put them in the same bracket as Bangladesh though, and it was only done because of the context of the discussion.
You are forgetting Houghton
