50 years ago tomorrow Arsenal won their first ever double. For the first 90 odd years of the century that was a very rare achievement. Not overly relevant unless you're old enough to be contemplating life after death. :wheelchai
I remember it quite well. I think they needed to win at Spurs or draw 0-0 to secure the title, whereas a higher scoring draw would have made Leeds champions on goal average. fwiw I wasn't overly fond of that Arsenal side, preferring Leeds to win the league and Liverpool to win the cup final.

Tierney is great. Teams would snap up Saka, ESR and Martinelli if we're talking about young players. Partey would have many takers as well.

The rest are either too old or mediocre
Leno good as well imo. But yeah other than that, slim pickings.

I didn’t follow the Spurs game. It was midweek and I just heard the result next day. I was rooting for Arsenal in the Cup Final, but I can’t remember why. It might have been a grudge against Jimmy Tarbuck.

Hasn't Leno had an iffy season? Emi Martinez is far better, you picked the wrong keeper.

Tierney, Leno, and Partey are acceptable starting players. You don't need to worry about their positions because you have them. But they don't really give you much of an edge over anyone else either. Chelsea always seem to have about 50 players at that kind of level.

Like most clubs, Arsenal are going to struggle moving the deadwood on and barring possibly Willock, none of those out on loan appear to have a future at the club.

Lacazette and a couple of others are going into the last year of their contracts so they will probably cash in on them but they really need to get recruitment right this Summer if they are to close the gap.

Yeah probably right tbh. He definitely gets a pass as being one of the waaaay least problematic members of the squad though. He's right down the bottom on a very long least of players that need replacing desperately.

The loanees Arsenal need to have a think about are Saliba, Torreira and Guendouzi.

I mean I don't have a lot of hope for the latter two. Torreira seems to have bombed, and Guendouzi seems to have burned all his bridges, but I guess you never know.

Saliba returning and turning out to be good would be very handy though. Would solve an awful lot of problems.

Arteta being reluctant to even notice Saliba worried me but he's monsterring the French League by all accounts. I still rate him and think he'll be an excellent player.

Gabriel is good with plenty of ceiling there but our midfield is atrocious. Like, easily the worst Arsenal midfield ive seen in more than 2 decades of being a fan.

The Kroenkes on cue leaking out that they'll invest in the summer but I ain't getting my hopes up again.

Torreira probably couldn't be any worse than Elneny. Guendozi, yeah I agree he's probably done at the club.

I suppose Saliba would be the easiest way to get more depth at the back replacing David Luiz.

Torreira's issue is not a question of ability really, it's more that he seems to not want to stay in Europe. And certainly not in the UK. Not really a question of ability with Guendouzi either, as you say. If both of them were fully motivated and engaged and in the right headspace I would have both of them back in a heartbeat.

RE: Saliba, Arsenal's issue at CB is not strength in depth. They have loads of depth in that position, probably more than in any other position in fact. The trouble is that the depth there almost exclusively consists of players who are crap. Luiz is shocking these days, Pablo Mari and Chambers are self-evidently third rate, and Holding is solid but uninspiring at best.

Yeah, would agree with that, Holding is a decent backup/squad option. Gabriel is the best cb they have imo. I would think Chambers and Mari would be on most lists to flog.

Chambers at least has the benefit of being a home grown player and of being quite versatile. He's the sort of player who can do an ok job against mediocre oppo so long as he has good players around him. A combination of good oppo/crap team mates exposes him so badly though.
