It's his ankle injuries after perhaps rushing back from that injury which saw the decrease in speed, which meant he became more one-dimensional. I don't yet see Kane down the predictable route yet, as Uppercut clearly does, I think it's possible for him to be a different but just as effective player, he's talking himself about longevity, not something many of those others had.

That Germany result though:laughing:
Hey I definitely don't think he's done, he's had a good season and adapted his game well. It's not that I don't think he's good now, it's more that I think people forget how good he used to be. For a couple of seasons under Poch he was probably the best striker in the world and it's hard to see him getting back to that level again.

I think that was Germany’s first defeat in a World Cup qualifier since the 5-1. Even though we won that group and they had to go into the playoffs they still made the final when the tournament came around even though they’d been diabolical at the previous Euros.

True, although they had an extremely cosy route to that final: Paraguay, the US and South Korea.

Makes our run to the 2018 semis look like a minefield.

Good job Germany weren't playing the whole of Macedonia, or else they might really have struggled. And when exactly did the Macedonians decide to split into two?
The rest of Macedonia is a region of Greece. It used to be FYROM but changed its name in a referendum. IIRC the main reason for doing so was that it would be much funnier if Germany lost at home to a country most people had never heard of.

Traditionally they're a reasonable enough side, I remember them getting a draw in England where Seaman let in a goal direct from a corner. I don't remember them ever really threatening to qualify but they're not bottom tier either.

I am just amused that Goran Pandev is still a thing.

I vaguely recall someone making a similar joke when Western Samoa (as was) beat the Leekists in the 1991 union WC.

Which was 30 years ago now, it suddenly occurs to me. Christ. Tempus fugit and all that.

Yeah, I think that was my source material.

Tranmere can’t defend. Jeff Stelling looks like he has an eye infection. Courtney Sweetman-Kirk is mine.
Shite. Our defence has been solid many times this season but little middle ground. Think we missed Davies in goal as well.

But really we were just poor today. A lot of recent games I've felt Vaughan would have made a difference or games were catching up with us but today we just weren't at it.

Still in the race though. If Vaughan is back soon I think we get over the line.

I don't believe in laughing at other people's misery. But the Newcastle fan on the radio absolutely inconsolable because Steve Bruce wants to carry on being manager next season was funny and there's no pretending otherwise.

Dortmund are so tremendously awful. Should be losing by a million here.

EDIT: This was a terrible post and will almost certainly bite me in the ass within days.

Relates to what we were talking about before. I didn’t realise that his first permanently debilitating injury was in April 1999, so he literally peaked at 19. I think sledger was remembering him as the pure striker from just after that, when he was still very good, but in the first compilation there his dribbling looks terrifying to face.
