17km in an ODI is what Kohli was measured at apparently. So we're talking around 5km in 90 minutes for a T20 cricketer?

It depends wildly on the type of player, and I think that deserves to come into a bit more consideration in regards to fitness test.

A specialist spinner who is unlikely to bat and doesn't have a long run-up won't run too much in a game, but a top-order batter/keeper or batter/seamer will run a lot in a game, whether between the wickets, running up to bowl, fielding, or running up to the stumps and back.

What if he gets injured midway? I will prefer to put him in India A squad to test his fitness prior to Eng tour. Those two warm ups are critical.
No warm up for WTC. So they might go with Ishant Bumrah & Shami( who has a horrible record there). Siraj I think is the nippy bowler we need on slowish Southampton track.

Toss up between going for Pandya or the 3rd specialist seamer who's a numpty with the bat. They'll never pick Bhuvi so can stop dreaming about it.
