New Zealand's batting depth is genuinely envious now. Lots and lots of countries would be picking Conway, Young, Phillips and Mitchell if available whereas they're all basically fringe players right now.

God I'm going to be so pissed off if Conway ends up being not selected for the WTC final. I know he hasn't played a test yet, but just watching the way he bats, I'd pick him ahead of everybody save KW. If somebody put a gun to my head and said "You can only have one of Conway or Taylor, choose now" I'd pick Conway without a moments hesitation.

Was a weird experience watching that, it was almost the exact same delivery, shot and throw as the final ball of the World Cup final. Great moment for Mitchell, but my first thought was actually, "Faaark, why couldn't that have happened at Lord's."

very early days for conway, but if youre south africa how do you look at that **** and go 'meh, he's rubbish, we won't miss him if we let him go player coach that uni in nz' ?

It's weird with Conway though, he just couldn't hack it in franchise cricket in SA, so no one probably even noticed him going. Something about domestic cricket in NZ really worked for him in a way it just didn't in SA.

Well he's nearly 30 years old now and has struck to the game. His mindset is what's getting him runs I think. He didn't give up and has consistently shown he wants more. By now he's quite skilled and has that hunger to make it happen. When mind and body think alike performances will come naturally.

So a bloke who I thought was a typical NZ bits and pieces provincial journeyman who is most well-known for being the son of an ex AB coach (and player) now averages over 75 in tests and has scored over 100 runs in ODIs at better than a run a ball without being dismissed. Amazing. Hats off to you Dazza.

Similar thing happened to Wagner. New Zealand domestic cricket does seem to get the best out of whoever comes in, it's like the Shield back in the 90's/00's.

Same... Didn't rate him at all but glad to say he's had a serious impact so far and looks set for at least 3-4 years of reasonable international career.
