Blimey that is a good knock and probably secured his spot for the tests and putting an end to our hopes of Hetmeyer opening
Yep agreed, for now. I hope Chase getting 70 odd isn't enough to claim a place. It shouldn't be.

Seales and McSween made the ball talk today. Very impressive.

Oh **** yeah!!!!!

Nial Smith with a vicious short ball that was too hot to handle for Brooks...that rattled him.

An easy lobbed catch for Keeper Hamilton.

I’m really impressed by Kraigg’s ability to rotate the strike against the spinners. Something about his hunger for run scoring now is just pleasant to see.

strike rate is high for his standards.

He has definitely shown some improvement in the last 6 months. I hope that translates to test runs soon.

So it's Smith versus Hetmyer now.

Hetmyer is Smith's bunny, btw.
Nial unsettled Hety who then went back to an arm ball, played across the line and was bowled by Warrican. Oh Hety, please play lots of 4 day cricket and learn how to bat in red ball matches.

Very good stuff from the pacers in this match though. Seales and McSween were very impressive and Nial is showing he has lots to work with also.

The common thing about Kraigg though is that he makes all his runs in practice/warmup games.

But looking at him now you can clearly see he’s like really applying himself now...good signs.

I thought that he was trying to attack Warrican one too many times in that over. He was playing back to the spinner, which was not a good thing to do. His patience at the crease is quite thin.

Kavem hodge on the other hand is playing the ball on its merit. Good old ‘bat till the cows come home’ batting.

Yep that was not an approach likely to succeed regularly in 4 day cricket. He needs serious work.

Just regarding Nial Smith, I thought it was interesting that he bowled so short, aggressive and fast. I know he has good pace but he is usually quite full with the odd bouncer. I wonder if they asked him to test the likes of Braithwaite and Hety, given our struggles against some short pitched bowling.

Either way, was great to see he has that in him.

Some decent performances in the best versus best match. John Campbell solidifies his place as the opening partner to Kraigg Brathwaite.
Seales, McSween, and Smith among the wickets. Spinners Permaul and Warrican as well.

Hetmyer is just a basket case at the moment.

My biggest takeaways were Campbell batting so solidly (the competition fluffed their lines so he stays) and the quality of seam bowling from Seales, McSween, Holder and Smith. It's clear to me that we are not short of strong pace bowling options in red ball cricket. Seales in particular almost looks ready now, which I did not expect. His line and lengths were excellent and he did not lose pace in his follow up spells. Very exciting.

Batting is another matter though, as the shot selection on Day 3 demonstrated.

Is Campbell the new Devon Smith? Too early to say. He'll have to continue this form into the test series and make some 100s. Fancy forties are not gonna cut it anymore for him.

These pacers need good mentorship and coaching. Just imagine them hunting in packs at the highest level. It's good that all of them are together at the same place for 'special' camp. We need more camps and matches like these.

Campbell doesn't score enough domestic runs yet to be the new Devon  . Though I have noticed a real improvement in his focus at the crease recently, so I really hope he can translate that to test level.

I fear the pacers won't be given enough of a chance as we just use Gabriel, Roach and Holder over and over. We need to rotate during this home season so it's not such a big shock when Roach and Gabriel retire or get injured.

Campbell has been among the runs since his return from Bangladesh. It seems as if he's consulted Blackwood on the ins and outs of batting...or another one of his Jamaican... As Bonner stated, "I get paid to make runs".

Regarding the pacers:
This is something Holder should be mindful of. You don't have to play Roach and Gabriel in every single match. Sometimes as a young cricketer it is good to get in the ear of the elder statesman who watches the game from the pavilion instead of being on the field. I think Roach did this in the second test in Bangladesh. Just knowing that you have an experienced guy talking cricket.
