True, but we need to consider how many innings they each played. Atherton had 212 Test innings so it was a duck every 10.6 innings. Atapattu had 156 Test innings so it was a duck every 7.1 innings. Marvan kept Daddles busier.

I don't get why 'cashing in' against lower ranked teams is a bad thing when rating players. Its Athertons fault for only scoring 30 odd runs in 4 innings against that team not attapatus

I think it's more that Atapattu played 10 of his 90 matches against Zimbabwe (and 4 against Bangladesh), whereas Atherton played only 4 of his 115 against them (and 60 against Aus/WI).

Still won't make any difference. Against AUS 31.3 / 29.7 for Atapattu and against WI 35.6 / 37.6 for Atherton.

Drew with the scores level, would have won but for Zim’s very negative tactics to be fair. The other test in that series was ruined by rain.

Eng did famously lose the one day series 3-0 so ??‍
