All these are rub of the green in favour of India. There are times when Great Britain supporters benefit from such close calls too. Let's not beat about the bush too hard blaming these small blemishes. Overall the bigger boy in the business - team India has given a sound thrashing and you guys were able to manage a lone victory infact drew first blood against a superior team is creditable. Be happy on that account.

Complaints about the method at which umpire decisions are made at are so obviously valid, in particular when they aren't neutral. The fact the calls appear to have been right is obviously not the point because you continue the same inconsistent approach then the next one could be costly. It's not rocket science and avoiding this point is just obfuscation. I've had a word with the mods and it'll be instant bans today for anyone supporting low quality umpiring.

To be fair, there are plenty of jobs where you can get in trouble for not being thorough and following protocol, even if you get the right result. Unless he's the best 3rd umpire ever, if he keeps making decisions after only a quick look at some it's bound to lead to an unnecessary mistake. There was an error last match precisely because the 3rd umpire rushed it. I can see why pundits might comment and maybe the coach behind closed doors may have something to say.

Doesn't excuse the onfield behaviour from the England players, obviously.
Excellent posting, keep it up

there is merit to this, but the incidents in question - Stokes dropped catch, Rohit's stumping - were pretty plain on first viewing. Che Pu's catch was much harder to call from the camera angle available, hence more time spent on it.

Spending more time on those decisions would have purely been for the optics, which is valid but really not that big a deal.

Whatever it takes!!!
I agree with both GIMH and RIS, btw. It does help to follow a set process given we don't have neutral umpires. The home umpiring has been an issue since cricket restarted post pandemic but issues with the third umpire is certainly a first.

is there any particular reason why the third umpire must be in the stadium?

the VAR rooms in football (i know, i know) are usually situated at the league office

This is obviously more about what happened last Test than this one.
Yeah, some of these reactions would have been more understandable if they happened after the Rahane call, for example. But I think it also shows they are mentally shot. We will see today, I guess. Maybe having slept over it, they can feel better about the fact that they were not robbed and those were the right decisions.

Hopefully the 3rd unpire understands the optics as well and can just go through a full set of replays before deciding.

Here’s a quiz for people in this thread - can you name all of the left handed bats in this lineup - both sides? No cheating.

I got most right but I missed some obvious ones.

again, use machines alone to umpire and you are guaranteed objectivity and a precision the likes of which we have never seen. it is always the human elements that ruin umpiring
