It's too much. Definitely too much. If Ashwin and Axar aren't taking wickets, Sundar is not gonna go rip through the side. And if they're taking wickets, you don't need a third spinner. If you want to play five bowlers, a third seamer would bring in more variety if things aren't going well - especially someone like Umesh who has been beyond fantastic in India over the last several years (avg of like 15 or something).

Like last match - Kuldeep bowled what? 12 overs total in the match? It's a waste of a spot.

And @Burgey, the old stadium which was fully torn down by the way, was called the Sardar Patel Stadium, after our first Deputy Prime Minister who was from Gujarat, same as our current Prime Minister. They renamed the entire complex after Sardar Patel but have renamed the stadium after Modi and they renamed it just before the game too, as @Spark points out, which makes it look in very bad taste.

I suppose it's worth remembering that we've started playing international cricket at Muammar Gaddafi stadium again too...

The pink ball isn't as visible on this broadcast as it is in England and Australia tests. Is that due to production value, the lighting at the ground, or is the SG pink ball less shiny than Dukes/Kooka?

What he wrote is not true. But cricket and politics have always been linked in India. From the days of Dalmiya-Ganguly-Jyoti Basu nexus to the Pawar-Mumbai-Congress nexus to the current one. It is no better or no worse than it was 25,15 and 10 years ago. Its my two cents.

Good thing Sundar is a legit number 6 tho. Deserves his spot on batting ability.

Sundar's in it for his batting primarily, but yeah.

Nah... spoken like a man who plays cricket on a computer. :) It matters on a turning track to have a 3rd spinner just like it matters on a seaming track to have a 3rd seamer.

That's not true. On a turning track, 2 spinners should be enough if they bowl well because they have the ability to bowl way more overs than pacers do. Often the inferior third spinner just takes away overs from the best 2. Its not like that for the pacers.

....I am not sure why I have to spell it out, but it's not the same. Your seamer isn't tying up an end for a 15 over spell....you need to rotate your seamers more.
