Great to see Ollie Newton back, and with some great figures as well.

Allen continuing to mystify in non-Super Smash formats.

Probably trying to do a BMac and playing ODI's like they're T20's in the hopes of jump-starting his List A career.

Yeah I'd much prefer he tried to build an innings. I think he's too good a talent to pigeon-hole himself as a pinch hitting T20 opener, dire start to his career in other formats notwithstanding.

Anyone know much about Briggs who is opening for Auckland? Have seen that he’s played a few A games as a keeper/batsman but don’t know anything more

Just that his first name is Cole, he's 23, born in South Africa but represented Auckland at under 17 and 19 level.

Lol. I thought -I've never heard of him, I guess he's South African.

Although he's gone thru their system, if U17s at least.

Just realised Finn Allen hasn't scored since breaking that bat he used all season. I guess one other benefit of Guptill keeping his spot is it allowed Briggs a chance to debut. Solia must be another getting close to Black Caps contention with his all round performances.

I read that article about his bat and thought well he's going to potentially mentally **** himself by being that openly seemingly dependent on a piece of willow.

I was blown away looking at Solia's List A record, it is incredibly good. Averages over 40 with three tons, strike rate of 85. Wickets at 30s as well. Absolute virtue of hard work Solia is, he was always a reasonable cricketer in the club grades as a young guy but never stuck out.

Solia has been playing for NZ A I thought. Obviously they know he can play. The slow medium batting all rounder slots are quite heavily crowded. It has always been like that but if you're half decent you have a chance of playing at the next level at some point in time. It's all a matter of timing.

Although these days we play only one such player on black caps unlike the previous few decades when we had like 3-4 such players.

Andy Morrison in for Ben Horne as a COVID replacement - presume Horne has symptoms. First one of those in NZ?

Andy Morrison is an out and out champion, expect to see his name more in future

IIRC 2nd. Chapman (named in playing XI) - Lister (Covid sub) - Chapman (returned to playing XI) in Plunket Shield 1st round.

This Briggs guy heading for another ton.
This Fisher guy heading for another 4 wicket match winning bag.

Edit - apart from his current 3 wickets, he bowled a sequence of dots to Colson (only 1 single from 8 balls) who was coming off an 80* two days ago. Then Colson got out next over trying to hit Verma. So 3 wickets and an "assist".

Wheeler returning to action probably wishes it wasn't at Eden Park Outer Oval. That does sound like a great bowling effort from Fisher and ND to bowl Wellington out for 188. A week ago they were scoring that inside 20 overs (granted they had Conway then).
