Nothing better captures the utter mediocrity that was English cricket in the 90s than this.
He averages nesrly 47 as a specialist batsman. A very good batsman made to join the sea of mediocrity by English management of the 90s.My favorite out of that list is Alec Stewart. I wonder if he averages more than 40 playing as a pure batsman though.

I think a parallel now.would be Ajinkya Rahane getting a prolonged run in Indian test side despite mediocre return overall.
