*Official* West Indies in Bangladesh 2021

Imagine being a seamer who takes 4-98 on a slow deck and then has to surrender the new ball to spinners in the next innings.

I'd quit, and then file a lawsuit.

This is going to be a good contest tomorrow. We need them out soon to have a chance.

Some form batsmen still to come for the Windies in Blackwood, Mayer and Bonner. All in all, they've handled spin a million times better than they did last time which has been very impressive.

Agreed but I'm still a tad nervous, I don't think our record in the third innings of tests is very good.

What is on our side is that the pitch is now clearly deteriorating and Bangladesh will have a very tricky chase if we put together even one partnership. It's another interesting test.

As for us playing spin better, it just goes to show the importance of giving people a go if your main batsmen are showing the same flaws over and over. Chase, Hope and even Kraigg have been awful since 2018 both against seam and pace. No matter what happens Bonner, Mayers and Da Silva deserve to keep their places.

Yeah this is the issue for us.

As for Bangladesh, no matter what happens in this match they need a serious change in leadership culture. Hopefully failing to win at home against us will bring this about.

They are going to be utterly shamed in New Zealand. Heck they were utterly mauled with these same players when they last toured the Caribbean.

Pick two seamers, let them bowl with the new ball. Organise A tours to more seam friendly locations. Give Abu Jayed, Taskin, Soumya et all a chance to develop. You'll still have Shakib, Tajiul and Mehidy to fall back on.

Their lack of vision for the last few years has really frustrated me.

Yeah, all of the above (although Soumya is a batsman).

I can't believe we're touring New Zealand again. It's gonna be ugly.

I think Soumya had some seam bowling skills to work with if given enough opportunities.
Yeah, I've been beating the same drum for a while. He gets shape and looked the most threatening of our bowlers at times in New Zealand.

But while he's averaging 90 with the ball, I'm calling him a batsman haha.

Fair enough ?

I'd give him a go in New Zealand though, give him the De Grandhomme role and see how it goes.

Completely agree although makes selection very interesting as Blackwood at 6 is pretty settled and I suspect the opening partnership will remain the same I'd keep Brathwaite personally. If openers are kept, Blackwood and 3 you mentioned that leaves just one spot for Bravo/Pooran/Brooks/Hetmyer most probably at number 3. A better problem to have then before this series but will be interesting who gets a go.

Just examined Bravo's record his ton against Pakistan in 2016. Good Lord.

No wonder you lot hate him.

The great thing about this as an option at home is that if it's not a waste of a spot if he doesn't end up bowling much. Bangladesh's balance has ended up the way it has through evolution rather than deliberate design - when they picked two or three seamers at home they'd bowl very few overs and be ineffective during them, so it became apparent their selection was pointless.

If Soumya bowls some overs with the new rock and then doesn't bowl again because the spinners are more effective, that's okay because he can still contribute as a batsman. If Rubel or Kamrul do that then you have a bloke batting eleven, bowling only 10-15% of the overs in the innings and averaging over 50 - a role rightly doomed to extinction.

I do think they need to pick at least two specialist quicks in NZ, but Souyma in the CdG role could help balance the side given Shakib is taking the tour off. Fizz, Jayed, Soumya, Mehidy and either Taijul or another quick should be the attack there for sure IMO.

We'll surely pick three quicks in New Zealand, but the issue is that they're all rubbish.

Wouldn't mind seeing if Taskin's got any better while he's been out. There was an article on Cricinfo suggesting he's worked on some things.

Fizz and Jayed are both "not terrible" IMO, at least with the new ball. I wouldn't pick another quick for the pure sake of it if Soumya was going to play but if I had any sort of faith in any of the others then yeah it'd make more sense than Taijul in a country spinners go to die.

No, they're both fine. I meant the remaining ones are all crap.

I'm quietly staggered at how good Abu Jayed's record has gotten with me realising.
