Was Vaughan moaning about the declaration (or lack of)? Didn't see any of that.

As I think I mentioned, I listened to the end of the game on Talksport this morning and Mark Nicholas and Goughy were pretty fair about it. Said that not declaring was the right decision but that England fell apart a bit for about 10-15 overs in the evening session yesterday. Root said as much post match - that they had their plan but things didn't quite go according to it. Which is of course what happens in all forms of life but especially professional sport. The problem is for idiots like Warne, there is no nuance. England should have smashed it at 8/over and then declared, and it was well within their control to do so because that's how cricket works.

In all sports I have a big problem when fans attribute every defeat, every failing or perceived failing to the individual or team who haven't succeeded and ignore that the opponent impacts this. But it's even more galling when those who have been there at the highest level do it. It's inexcusable.

Good win for England. Certainly a chance of a series win now for England. They performed excellently in this test. The only question mark is Root’s defensive field settings. He should have had more catchers in. If Root continues his form with the bat and Stokes plus others dig in England are going to be very difficult to beat

That is the fun part, you can't even be fully happy even though you are over the moon about India losing.
Completely happy about it. Some things are just objectively good.

As usual the HK nerd has it wrong - gloating about India losing has been a jam for me for 13 years. Has nothing at all to do with how good or bad my own side does. It's great when they cop a beating.

This is true. Particularly humorous in the 2011 England-India series when he'd post things like 'Go on Jimmy!' and then admonish himself.

On paper England is perhaps the weakest of the top 4, but Silverwood looks to be doing a great job.

Openers
1 NZ, 2 India, 3 Australia, 4 England
Middle order
1 India, 2 NZ, 3 Australia, 4 England
Tail batting
All good except India who are a distance 4th
Pace attack
1 Australia, 2 NZ, 3 England, 4 England (all very good though)
Spin attack
1 India, 2 Australia, 3 England, 4 NZ
Wicketkeeping
1 NZ, 2 Australia, 3 England, 4 India
Captaincy
1 NZ, not sure of others
All are pretty good fielding units

Just looking back at the highlights, there's just such a sense of confidence about this England team. The celebration of Pujara's wicket was incredibly low-key in the context of the game, like 'we expected this' to happen rather than hoping for him to make a mistake
