*Official* 1st Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, 05 - 09 Feb 2021

I agree. If the bowlers were tired they could've rotated the selections in the 2nd test (bring in some of Broad, Stone, Woakes, Moeen).
FFS not enforcing follow_ons isn’t just about keeping bowlers fresh for the rest of the series. It’s about them not being too tired to bowl in the second innings!

Lol no your takes continue to be bad. Batting last wouldve been a stupid decision, and England will accelerate with Root, and especially once Stokes Buttler get in.
If you happen to have to bat again on this track, you are not winning anyways. Sometimes you have to take the more positive option. But I can see why they batted again. Really do think our bowling on the second day, especially the second and third sessions, has been a bigger factor than people want to acknowledge. Sometimes you can save test matches with good defensive bowling too and India did that in sessions 5 and 6.

Nadeem had a very good debut and was always going to get another chance at home when there was a spot open. This is all hindsight selection bashing.
If he was picked, he would have been picked ahead of Sundar too, if you read what the same folks posted in this and the other thread before the game started.

Yes, didn't see that he had an amazing game vs South Africa before.

As much I didn't think it was as bad as some others did at the time, there was plenty of bashing of the selection before a ball had been bowled. It's unfair to say it's all hindsight.

The problem is there shouldn't have been a spot open. If Kuldeep was found to be bowling poorly in the nets, surely the same coaches should've also discovered Nadeem was having trouble with his rhythm? Ten no-balls in a Test don't just materialize out of nowhere.

Very possible that many are only now being noticed since the 3rd umpire is calling those.

Ishant with 300 wickets and has just entered the best bowling form of his life in the last couple of years. What a great man. Bowling beautifully.

Coz India are not gonna score 250 odd in 3 sessions when batting for a draw. Its what the follow on does, it does not give you hope of winning when it is already only 5 sessions left in the game. Right now, they are gonna leave the door slightly open for India for a 4th innings chase.

Yeah, been amazing for a few years now. Hopefully it continues for few more years.

Time for Bumrah at the other end now I think. Stokes can get on top of spinners quickly. And Root has already done so.
